wnaplay1647545503
2007 dodge ram 1500. Filled up today and drive to Salem Ohio and back. Mapquest put me about 162 miles each way. When I got back the odometer said I had went nearly 600 miles. What would cause this? I have 20" factory rims but I don't know if they are factory for this year or truck, would having the wrong size cause this? I was out of gas the same place I filled up this morning. I don't know anything about this truck or if anything has been changed by the po.
Aaron
tire/wheel size has nothing to do with odometer reading...
-Alex-
Tire height will affect the speedometer, which will affect the odometer in some cases. I'm not sure the setup on the '07 Rams. Previous owner could've changed the gear ratio in the truck and not corrected the speedometer.

Snowflake
I have 22s on my truck and between 65-80mph on the speedo Im going 5-6 miles over that on the GPS. I figure at 97000 odometer miles Im well over 100k real miles.
wnaplay1647545503
I am going under speed on my speedometer compared to gps. 65 on gps is 60 on speedometer?
nurkvinny
The Odometer reads from the same thing as the speedo - the ring gear. But, (without thinking too much about it), you're probably only off 5% or so if those are not the original tire OD. Any chance the truck had much different sized tires before you had it, and the previous owner had it calibrated?
Aaron
REALLY? CMON AARON btw did you get my vm its time to rotate your tires I did, and was surprised! I'll bring it by shortly for a balance and rotation. YES, REALLY DEREK. Tires won't make a 160 mile trip into 600 miles...
nurkvinny
One thing's for sure - you didn't go nearly 600 miles on a tank in an 07 Ram.
