vonrottes
Looks like my decision to buy the new engine over a new oil pump was the right one... Actually drained all the oil from my H3 pan and the bottom had enough metal/sludge/carbon that the posts for the pick up tube were covered completely.. Cut apart the oil filter and found twice as much metal in there. looks like it may have been enough to restrict the flow enough to pop the bypass valve at higher pressures.... http://40.media.tumblr.com/9ebb54f90351f95b76721134f1b15746/tumblr_nrecjn7PR21suerqbo4_540.jpg After some acetone got dumped in. http://40.media.tumblr.com/c4a0d67222a045bce2f638e01b406e5a/tumblr_nreu7jwNgw1suerqbo2_540.jpg Engine is still on a stand due to....two stubborn broken off manifold bolts.. Extractor snapped off, no drill bit we could find on sunday was hard enough to cut through it and I couldn't get a solid weld on it... aside from that.... the engine is ready to go back in. http://36.media.tumblr.com/0d8195ccaf147473e11a8141018f3f29/tumblr_nrecjn7PR21suerqbo1_540.jpg After we found that crap in the oil pan, my dad no longer wants to turn that into his turbo race engine... so long as the rotating assembly is good all it should need is new bearings right? I mean the crosshatching in the cylinders still looks great, Cam is not grooved and I mean it was still running great while it had oil pressure. Other confirmed issues on the LR4: rear main was leaking as I suspected and rear cover was leaking, transmission mount is ripped in half Could not see a visible bend/warp in the flex plate which is what I thought was causing a vibration around 3k in park. vonrottes
Late update. 706 heads turned out to be castech http://36.media.tumblr.com/23ede4ea9c1da819d80dffa1bdb68fd3/tumblr_nrlazziZrc1suerqbo1_540.jpg that were cracked http://41.media.tumblr.com/9cd7ba19b030c0e5f1cd7c1c3dced26f/tumblr_nrm54y0Izr1suerqbo1_540.jpg so I reused my 862 heads http://40.media.tumblr.com/3e0f80699df02f19cb937e2f9d606cea/tumblr_nrlazziZrc1suerqbo2_540.jpg after I lapped the valves and replaced the valve stem seals http://41.media.tumblr.com/de12677fcb099d9a2b0c6c9fec2aa34a/tumblr_nsdxgxMYmG1suerqbo4_540.jpg and I even found the #8 exhaust valve was bent.....wtf http://41.media.tumblr.com/3f0a456aa607df794a861cef534cc3cd/tumblr_nsdxgxMYmG1suerqbo1_540.jpg and boom http://36.media.tumblr.com/27fd683827c88791872029c0d34846fe/tumblr_nsdxgxMYmG1suerqbo2_540.jpg Other stuff I have not taken pictures of yet: I redid all the engine wiring, it now run off a tiny distribution block with fuses. and a single relay for the fuel pump. the dash wiring i now hooked up under the hood with a weather pak connector. Instead of trying to wedge my misaligned stock crossmember back under the truck I went and bought a brand new Gforce S10 4l60e crossmember, and had to relocate the driver side exhaust to clear that square behemoth. also had to replace the transmission mount as mine had ripped in half (probably due to the misalignment of the crossmember) and here is a short clip of it running https://instagram.com/p/55aNtcrC4o/?taken-by=vonrot going tomorrow to replace the air filter, finish bolting up the exhaust and putting the hood back on.... nearly a month and just shy of $1,000 to do an engine upgrade... *more pictures of all the work tomorrow. gotta show off how much cleaner it is this time around. vonrottes
this time I was actually on time doing something! she hit the streets today after I slapped on a new air filter and put some clamps on the exhaust. http://41.media.tumblr.com/8634e7999bb95a60f62a8024c3259518/tumblr_nsilkl9WNP1suerqbo1_540.jpg http://40.media.tumblr.com/658124ba52980ae91f5d3b0c61403b7e/tumblr_nsilkl9WNP1suerqbo2_540.jpg http://41.media.tumblr.com/406563be8e07423730f40f7713ba8813/tumblr_nsilkl9WNP1suerqbo3_540.jpg http://36.media.tumblr.com/f6bd832e248db369341c3a12f6d4e6b5/tumblr_nsilkl9WNP1suerqbo4_540.jpg So far so good. runs great, has a weird "vibration" around 55-70mph in OD... I think it's just the exhaust. other than that, with the new crossmember and transmission mount (no binding and a better tailshaft angle) the vibration at....higher speeds have smoothed out completely. kinda surprised on the exhaust though. lost one of my stage 8 bolts and reused the victor reinz header gaskets.... WITH NO LEAKS AT ALL! LT fuel trims are running around +0.8 so far no leaks anywhere, no overheating, no weird noises (other than a damn belt squeak) maybe it's just me, but I always expect the worst when I tackle something like this... Like the oil pump oring and the head gaskets. still worried about the head gaskets leaking though.

vonrottes
Installed long over due rear shocks and cheap-o traction bars. The shock mounts broke at the threads so I cut them off flush with the spacers, drilled them out and tapped the hole for ½-13 (or 16 I dunno) used two 2½ stainless bolts and pressed a 1/2 x 5/8 x 1" sleeve into the shock eyelets to make the fit snug on the bolt and...well it worked out pretty awesome! the bars look crappy 'cos I just threw some blue plastidip on them I had left over from the wheels. but anything is better than the yellow had to do some testing for science... vonrottes
This thread is so rarely updated...I'm such a sloth.. Anyways, after buying HPtuners I've set the transmission all to spec with a SSR including the Torque management... and also set up the "performance" mode which just needs me to hook up the button. Transmission has not shifted weird since I reset everything. guy that tuned it originally set everything the same as stock "performance" so I dunno what was causing the intermittent hard shifts. as for the engine tune, I've only changed the spark table to a 2002 SS camaro, changed the fuel stuff to match a 2004 Silverado for the 628 injectors. as soon as I get some time off work and decent weather I'll get some "real" tuning in on the street. As for fixing broken shit.....I found a rattle coming from the transmission was one of the bolts had backed out...guess that's why you are supposed to use loctite. Coming soon. New body parts.. already ordered a new front bumper without the bump strip holes, driver side inner fender and passenger side fender... Still need to order the other inner and fender as well as a Driver side door shell and both rocker panels. Which I plan to get done this spring. Going to have my dad paint them before I put them on. And since I have to replace the upper/lower bushings and ball joints, I figured what the hell, good excuse to order a set of Spohn control arms. And while the whole front end is apart, I'm going to sand down the frame and throw some por-15 on it. Still have the BCM from a 2001 Camaro ready to go in, which I'll probably door with the doors since I can get the Regulators and actuators installed.. It's still a SLOW ass process but it is starting to come along. and I'm ready to get it looking good since I've not had any issues with the way it's running since I put in the new engine. vonrottes
Oh look some pictures! http://56.media.tumblr.com/5184d8efcf0b33df1062d96aeaf4f4a7/tumblr_o1e9syN6E01suerqbo1_1280.jpg http://56.media.tumblr.com/0ff1de1534d24b62913ed495365883e1/tumblr_o1e9syN6E01suerqbo2_1280.jpg http://56.media.tumblr.com/10d9e767bff65a0e5133ce71cd50ab5e/tumblr_o1e9syN6E01suerqbo3_1280.jpg http://56.media.tumblr.com/6b63b95009118500825b1c2f236605a9/tumblr_o1e9syN6E01suerqbo4_1280.jpg Fenders, inner fenders and front bumper are all sitting in my dad's garage waiting to be prepped and painted. Still need to do something about the hood.... dad seems to think a L88 style scoop would look good. I don't want a standard cawl...those are WAYYY too overdone on S-series. Once I get my taxes, I will be ordering the the Spohn control arms and Front end rebuild kit. Since as far as I know it's all original from '92. Next real upgrade I'm looking at is LS1 brakes.... Flynbye has the pre modded Spindles with hubs installed for $400 for the set. then it's just All stainless brake lines and braided hoses and the Hydroboost. Eventually need to get a new windshield. Would like to tint the windows when I do the electronics in the doors.. Also been thinking about doing some green Dragon Laminates on the headlights...I think it would look really nice with the black/blue pearl on the body & grille and the black/green pearl tentacles...maybe a little too ricey. And as for making it look good.... LMC has the door and rockers.....But I also need a whole bed and tailgate... mine might not look bad from a few feet away but the front of the bed is rusted out and the wheel wells are pretty bad. tailgate is rusted out pretty bad at the bottom seam. And I'd also like to get some kind of tonneau cover maybe a snap on like the Syclone had. Annnnnddd I'm going to try an build a tubular core support since mine is rusted and cut to hell. vonrottes
Have kind of been neglecting the hoopty due to increased rent and being broke..... February I did switch over to 974 25lb injectors, returnless rail and Corvette filter, was still having "cold" start issues having to let the pump fully prime before it would fire.. Last week truck died on 270 on my way home from work, thought it was the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump.... after pulling the pump out of the tank... http://67.media.tumblr.com/ffba4bd562e369064e91b2716b0d34d0/tumblr_o97hjjkuBs1suerqbo4_1280.jpg http://67.media.tumblr.com/166911400d29f64de8207f51adaf8087/tumblr_o97hjjkuBs1suerqbo1_1280.jpghttp://67.media.tumblr.com/c51c57ee38e105f8aa83ee05cb7a4273/tumblr_o97hjjkuBs1suerqbo2_1280.jpg http://66.media.tumblr.com/eee85648374608239c8378ff2a58633d/tumblr_o97hjjkuBs1suerqbo3_1280.jpg (melted the female plug and burnt the male plug, also melted the shrinkwrap and looks like it started to melt the solder on the wires.) There was plenty of warnings online and even a warning card in the box when I bought the pump that the stock wiring may night be able to handle the 15 amp draw of the pump.. So this is 100% my fault, went ahead and ordered a "upgraded" bulkhead and harness from Racetronix and it should be here today. I didn't check the current draw of the pump with pressure in the lines, but I checked it in a cup of fuel hooked up to a motorcycle battery and it pulled 6.67 amps, so I'm hoping the pump is OK and shorting out didn't burn it up. And the hose clamps on the pump/sending unit seemed a little loose when I pulled it out, maybe the cold start issue was just a leak at the little hose inside the tank, not letting the lines hold any pressure. vonrottes
Small update. Installed a L98 waterpump in october, So no longer have a huge radiator hose snaking around the engine bay and also made it possible to run a car intake if I decide to get one. Got my dad to drive the truck around 270 a few months ago while I dicked around with hptuners RTT seems to be running great with the spark adjustments I made. getting an estimated 310hp at the crank based on injector duty. 15hp over stock doesn't sound unreasonable. still getting about 17-18mpg city A friend that works are tire discounters scored me a free set of Verde Parallax 19x8.5 wheels, so now the hunt for good summer tires is on. http://68.media.tumblr.com/f7f0643b16849d0908387e59763a500a/tumblr_oi6w6kn38i1suerqbo1_1280.jpg gonna look super bad ass with a good set of 245/50's on it. And lastly.... I finally convinced myself I need it so I ordered a set of stainless works longtube headers on Friday. Up next is Spohn control arms.....which I've been saying I'll buy the last three years. but now I HAVE to, can't run the longtubes with the stock stamped uppers. And I'm trying to make sure I get the fenders and everything painted this spring so to truck will at least start to look good.

vonrottes
They came in today while I was at work they are a lot more compact than I thought and the 1 7/8th primaries look huge. And for $1,100 normal retail I was kind of expecting the quality to be a lot better..... like they look and feel solid, but like I guess just the "finish" is lacking kinda making them look like some $100 ebay specials... Not going to waste time trying to polish them before Installing because 6months after they get put on they will change colors and get a dull finish just like my current short tubes. vonrottes
Have not really been taking a lot of pictures... Rusted parts are just pissing me off... seems like everything I do the truck fights me... Had to cut off several nuts Saturday removing the upper control arms... Tried to take the body mounts loose and the top nut broke loose(I just replaced the mounts and bolts in 2014) Now I'm waiting on spring isolators from jegs, since they never have any parts in stock these days. Buttttt heres a picture of everything going on the truck http://68.media.tumblr.com/b7175aebf71fd13029d137e0f93f1cac/tumblr_ol341cE6Qm1suerqbo1_1280.jpg (obviously there are two more identical wheels) Still need to get some 2" adapters for the front wheels and tires I think I've decided on four 255/45r19 Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2
vonrottes
Got a little bit of work done today... finished removing the LCAs and got the new spohn parts loosely installed. gotta go get a spring compressor before I can put the spring back in but I'm also not sure if I should replace the springs while I have it apart. they are only like $52 I could go with the ZQ8 springs which are a little firmer? Really excited to see how much of a difference the new suspension makes in ride/handling.... and obviously to see how well it runs without any exhaust leaks! That'll be an absolute first.... since I was never able to completely seal the collectors on the short tubes.
Nickey4271647545519
Holy shit, looks like a copy of my front suspension. Spring compressor is useless, do it the sketch way and it'll go a heck of a lot quicker. I opted for DJM drop 2 springs, well worth the investment. Not really looking to drop the front, especially since I don't know how well the new wheel/tires will fit.. I just want to stiffen up the front a little bit. Looking at the moog 5660 which should be a stock spring rate.... Maybe my springs are just a little worn after 25 years. Also been playing around with my Syclone in Forza 6 which is setup as close to my S10 as possible and I got the best handling/lap times with the 598 spring rate

Only I went with all Proforge parts, heard nothing but good about them and they were fairly cheap...and those billet adjuster, so worth the extra $$ if not just for looking so much better than the stock clamp style adjuster. I went ahead and ordered the moog 5660 spring this morning, they were only$62 from summit after shipping...so if I don't like them I'm not out much... may look into drop springs after I get the wheels and tires put on, just really didn't want to spend all this money on new suspension and then put it back together with old crappy looking rusted springs
vonrottes
SHE LIVES AGSIN!!!! got the headers installed last night, hooked the battery up backwards and melted the alt. charge wire and melted the terminal out of the battery... changed batteries this morning, and fired right up and sounds AMAZING with open headers..... seriously thinking about getting some cutouts before I rework the exhaust.. All that is left to do is: coolant, steering linkage, torque convertor bolts, exhaust, and shocks. I'll try to get a video of it with open headers, after I get coolant put back in it.. just not sure if my phone or camera will be able to handle it without clipping the audio. headers were a pain in the dick on the passenger side, ended up having to cut the starter shield off the bellhousing of the 4l60e (iirc these were made with a 700r4) there is a slight bit of contact on the bottom of the cab, but they still went into place and bolted up... only part that worries me is I followed the instructions and used the included RTV to seal the headers, and ditched the gaskets... vonrottes
ordered some new KYB shocks and Bosch o2 sensors that will be here today. Installed the drag link backwards, so I've gotta fix that.. but other than that she is just about ready to drive again, still need to torque down the control arm bolts.. but yeah... here is a shitty clip of the exhaust, didn't take it over 2k because 9am, cold and no o2 on the passenger side. If I am able to get everything put back together before work, I will be at Cars and coffee Saturday morning with her.....if not I might still show up just to take some pictures.
