FORD GUYS: V8 vs V10 cube vans

I spoke with our chuch pastor today and he was very appreciative of the info about used U-Haul trucks. In looking at the inventory, the big differences I see - since mileage is all around 170k-220k - is whether to get the 6.8L V-10/AOD or 7.5L(460) V-8/E40D combo. The V10's also have Dana 80 rears, and aux oil/tranny coolers.

 

Figuring wear to be significant and relatively the same across the board, which would you go with? Our church is buying two, and will only use them over the period of a couple of years to go up Sawmill and back from Bethel Road to a sister church location in Delaware. Any input would be appreciated.

Both are great motor's in trucks and vans, both aren't gonna get great MPG's but it doesn't sound like thatll be much of a factor for the short distance your going. Very comparable IMO, I have an 84 E350 with a Carb'd 460 and it's a helluva motor I don't have to do anything to it and its still running great. I've owned an F250 with a V10 and it was a TQ monster and had not issues as well with it.

 

Preference really, But I'd be inclined to go with the V10 with the cooler's, I'm surprised the 460's don't have them on there as well. I'm by no means an expert on these motors, just giving real world work conditions.

Last truck is a 2500 rebuild on the tranny. But I have a 20k unit for $1200
