Popular Post ol doc gully
I moved to columbus from Austin texas a year ago for a job Brought with me my 2.5RS ive been daily driving for 11 years, and having quite a bit of fun with as well (had cams, bushings, JDM seats, prodrive/bilstein suspension, etc by the end) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8367/8418278753_882f96873c_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8204223896_96fe3698ac_b.jpg http://www.rs25.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=58559&d=1399381208 http://www.rs25.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=58560&d=1399381208 http://www.rs25.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=58562&d=1399381208 http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8201/8203134241_468ecbe31b_b.jpg There is quite a lot of rallyx action going on down there these days so I played in that, and drove it at harris hill (road course) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8020/7256870124_d92a71d46f_o.jpg But I want to spend more time driving road courses. Its what I love. The Subaru was A JOY to drive, but that much grip and that much power just weren’t going to satisfy my cravings. So I sold it this past weekend and picked up a nice daily / work horse / tow vehicle (’14 tacoma). I want something rwd, irs, light, and simple for motorsports fun. Raw, challenging, that would force me to learn. and I love vintage styling (and V8s). After some time (considering a factory five 33 hot rod, E30 or E36 bmw, CTS-V) I came back to the 240Z and it was undoubtedly exactly what I was looking for. Luckily, shortly after I had moved here my buddy who helped me move was coming back through to trailer his pikes peak car to Toronto, so on his way back down I had him pick me up this in buffalo 72 240z: L28, webers, 5 spd, and pretty much everything else completely original (even the spare) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/8599896641_bf8790b538_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8509/8599899585_3e91b26846_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8525/8599900075_075010f3af_b.jpg Progress has been slow on the (learned how much working in a garage in winter here sucks) but it should be out and about in the next month or so. I’ll do a full update once its on the road but so far have completely redone all suspension and brakes (all new ball joints etc, koni shocks, ground control coils, rear disc brakes, Toyota 4x4 front calipers) and replaced all bushings with polyurethane. The webers were pretty beat and way out of tune so traded them for a well built set of high performance SUs (factory 240 carbs). Once its running solid itll get a LSD, race seats and roll bar. As I said the idea is to get into as much road racing as possible, hoping to work out the kinks at nelson ledges (though I hear it may be closing?) and also hit mid ohio before the year is through (maybe that June 6-8 NASA HPDE?). but really ill probably take advantage of about any excuse to drive it, autox, drift, whatever – happy to be a member here and hoping to find all the options there are to bring it out in central ohio! Oh, and also, I picked up this thing cheap, planning as a rallyx toy and maybe chump/lemons one day. Its currently having some idle/starting problems I just haven’t taken the time to work on but for a long while was a real reliable little beater, even took it camping. I may also just sell it, as its really just been a distraction from the Datsun and Im afraid it may keep doing just that. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3674/9909625605_0bf99497f5_b.jpg As it sits now *almost* ready to rumble; put on 04 sti suspension and a few other things http://www.rs25.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=56940&stc=1&d=1388636232

ImUrOBGYN
Nice intro, man. I moved here from Texas but around Bryan/College Station. Though I'm not originally from there, I've spent a massive portion of my life all over Texas. Few other Texas folk on here, as well. Anyway, welcome. And if you're down for whatever, I take some big day trips now and again around Ohio. If this place is good for one thing, it's the roads. ol doc gully
thanks guys! i have to say austin suits me about as well as any city could ever suit a person, but ive found a great home here in columbus already. love it here, great little city, and already made friends with a guy who races a 240Z in SVRA and another guy who runs chump/lemons, between them and this site i think i'll definitley be able to find my racing fix! Nice intro, man. I moved here from Texas but around Bryan/College Station. Though I'm not originally from there, I've spent a massive portion of my life all over Texas. ol doc gully
Oh...and that 2.5RS is sick. Where did you get that front bull bar thing? its a pretty hard to find rally innovations piece (actually the only thing i kept from the car in selling)... its really just a light bar so mostly for show but i also have a full engine skid plate - both of which are going on the outback sport (aka Crapwagon aka Dirt Diggler) Welcome. Looking forward to seeing the Datsun build. indeed! ive got a bunch of pics of the suspension setup etc up to now i just need to pull off of my camera. engine is kinda low on compression but im going to give it a go anyway... fingers crossed for first fire up with the new carb setup may be tonight...

ol doc gully
made what friends have dubbed the creepiest basement in the world into a paint booth. and then realized i basically made a murder chamber, even creepier. painted all suspension parts front/rear with zinc phosphate (95% zinc) and then POR-15 http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_paintbooth_zps0332cc91.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_frontsuspencoated_zps2ae7836e.jpg new wheel bearings all around http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_rearsusp_picnic_zps19d50389.jpg devised a perfect rear wheel bearing press for these, 1 1/4 steel pipe and hammer http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_bearingpress_zps99a5857e.jpg new OEM balljoints, tie rods ends, polyurethane bushings everywhere http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_frontsuspension-bare_zps72954bf5.jpg rear spindle pins were a pain in the ass.. as expected, beefy special little tool helped a lot, but even it mushroomed before second one broke off, i ended up just grinding it apart http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_spindlepintoolmushroom_zps2e0fd018.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_gullyhandlinspindlepins_zps3ec65b0b.jpg front brakes http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_frontsuspension_zpsa63eeed2.jpg rear http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_rearsusp_zpsb6c4fba8.jpg rear brakes, guess i forgot to take a picture with them on.. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_rearbrakes_zps3d81867d.jpg chopped up a yoga mat to make fender covers hahaha http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_yogafendercovers_zpse1533e3d.jpg
ol doc gully
ended up ditching the webers... they just werent going to be right, especially being 45s, for what the car was aimed at. was going to need to rejet, and would have choked down which would have just required more investment and time than was worth putting into something that was gonig to be ALL top end. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_webersout_zps98f339d5.jpg i traded them for some race prepped SU carbs in very good order, rebuilt by a long time 240z master around here Bob Smith http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_SUScominghome_zpscb86d7ce.jpg SU carbs actually came off of this gem, #13 SVRA racecar, owned by Andy Doll, who has become a good friend and been unendingly helpful in all of this, huge thanks to him. this is also where the webers went.. right where they belong. first race is last weekend of june, unfortunately same as pikes peak so i need to make some decisions =\ http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/doll_num13frontangle_zps3cad2efe.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/doll_num13_ingarage_zpsd9a81b51.jpg the mrs even had a hand :D good woman. shes probably as excited as i am. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_tinawrenchin_zpsd4999968.jpg up next... confirmed my nismo/power brute clutch LSD can use sti inner axles, now just need to save up the $$ http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_powerbrute_zps63bef589.jpg old school momo race wheel, going to get wrapped in alcantara http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/misplacedape/build_momomomontage_zps5f7e305f.jpg
