ecc_33
I have a 86 chevy truck with a SBC. It has headers, dual exh, edelbrock rpm intake, small comp cam 268 cam, 650 cfm edelbrock carb. Have any of you guys messed around with the edelbrock power package top end kits? http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2099/10002/-1?parentProductId=#moreDetails I don't know if I could get it cheaper anywere else. They claim 435hp out of this kit IF the truck would have 9.5 to 1 comression. I would say the engine I have is around 8.5 to
Green Bastard
Does this top end kit come with heads (I couldn't view the link)? If not I would look for a set of heads to bump the compression a little (say 64 cc heads if your current ones are 76 cc). Also a bigger cam would wake it up a little more. SHIEF
Says kit doesn't included lifters. Have you priced hyd. roller lifters? They aren't cheap. You need a blower.

Yea they are stupid expensive You need a blower. Needs more Weiand.... No, Im not mad maxing this thing lol. found a bad ass article with a goal of 400hp which would make me more than happy with my beater! http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/chevrolet/smallblock/0606em_350_chevy_bolt_ons/viewall.html Looks like if I put a nice set of alumn. heads that are 64cc and a good cam, intake, carb i could possibly get 400hp out of the stock short block and be reliable fun on pump gas. IMHO perfect combo for want I want.
Nickey4271647545519
That top end kit has way to much cam for your engine. It will certainly sound good, but most likely won't make any more power than it makes now. If you want more I suggest to start with stroking it. Patterson
With that low of compression, I would run the Performer Package. It focuses on low speed torque, which is what you'll want.
Green Bastard
Fwiw, I don't believe they made any factory aluminum 64cc heads, they did make them with 58cc chambers for a couple years on Corvettes (86-88 I believe, L98 motor).

Thanks, being a 4wd truck that I still tow very lightly with that would be nice. I was thinking more of the lines like AFR or aftermarket. I have never even heard of old school factory alumn heads. Looks like I just need to get a "bigger" mild cam, intake, 64cc heads, and play around. Or get one of those cheap azz ebay single turbo kits and charge it

I had no idea that was the direction you were thinking. You said beater and I was thinking budget. As for the factory aluminum heads, you could just search cl for "L98" heads, there are iron heads and for a few years they made aluminum heads. Cordell
Looks like you could just tow it with the Duramax in your sig and make it faster. Seriously though, sounds like a mild blower set up would be perfect. Just seems to me there isn't going to be nearly the bump in power I'd want with some heads on an underpowered old small block. Not really a beater lol. I just call it my "beater" cause its the cheapest of the 4 vehicles we have and im not affaid to scratch it.
