The_buster
Well they started teaching me how to do new things and talking about me becoming a tech 2. Today I did a differential fluid exchange and a coolant exchange. As for new stuff I will be able to do shocks and struts as well as fluid exchanges. I'm excited and just wanted to share. Also I was looking into a welding class. There is talk of sears maybe possibly doing exhaust work. Thought I would prepare myself and learn some welding. C-tec here in newark, old JVS, has some adult education classes and one is for welding. But it sounds like it's big structural welding and nothing what I'm looking for. Any suggestions on where to go for classes?
copperhead
Welding is welding. The vocational school is really your best bet. If you can become really good at welding you'll find way better paying jobs than doing oil changes and replacing exhaust.
Mojoe
Congrats. Always nice learning something new that you really like. Follow what you've said, and get some format training.
Mitch
Congrats, and good for you, hard work and a good work ethic eventually pays off. I'd definitely look into those welding classes even if it's just to see if it's right for you.

Otis Nice
Congrats man. If you want to learn to weld, do it. Then leave Sears.
Richard Cranium
Tolles out in Plain City does adult education welding courses as well. Cost is about $300 for the course and it's a bargain because you'll probably burn up that much in materials in the class. There is a new instructor, I'm not sure exactly how the class runs now, but it used to be you worked on what you wanted to. Some folks worked on learning stick welding, some mig. I want to take the class again and spend my time on learning tig.
Cordell
If it's just for automotive and exhaust you really only need to know MIG welding, I learned on the job as it is pretty basic. 90% of exbaust work doesn't need to be pretty anyway, just not leak. If you really want to better yourself there is certainly nothing wrong with taking a welding course, besides welding jobs pay better then anything you're doing. Geeesammy
Atta boy buster. You'll be the suspension guru in no time. Make sure you get the arms all the way onto the spring. No one needs a spring shooting around the shop....

The_buster
C-tec is almost 8 grand. That's half of what I made last year. .. going to look into the Tolles place and save up some money after the wife graduates in spring. Will definitely do the C-tec class though. Unless anyone wants to teach me?.......
Green Bastard
As far as exhaust work goes, just find someone who has a buzz box at home and get some scrap to practice on. If it is something you want to look into to make a career out of, then I would get schooling on it if I were you.
Supplicium
What's suburban pay? all experience based, good money really good benefits. C-Tec offers seniors to take a mentorship at my company. We hired a student last class right out of school.
