Exactly. Why vote for a bad law when under current laws in OH, you can have up to 1oz and its a $100 ticket and no jail time? It's less than a speeding ticket. Or just go to Toledo now.

But, im pretty sure they can take your license and some lease agreements and jobs can deny you because of such charges.

Making weed legal needs to be a LAW, not a fucking CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

Laws can easily be changed by the legislature (fucking republicans), constitional admendments? Not so much.

End of thread. Why can't everyone in Ohio understand this?

I think the intent here was to prevent the Ohio Supreme Court or federal courts from ruling their monopoly/cabal as being in violation of the Sherman Anti-trust Act.

I understand that, but that's why it should be a law. Keep politicians accountable, if they decide to go against the will of the people they get voted out of office.

A constitutional amendment, while more protected against political interests, is also a lot harder to change. Put simply, I'd rather have a law that is susceptible to repeal than an oligopoly that is constitutionally embedded and nearly impossible to modify.

To be fair, that "punishment" is very misleading. We were just discussing this again yesterday when some canvassers came thru the neighborhood with their Vote Yes flyers for Issue 3. I wanted to ask them if they knew wtf they were doing. I guess I'm just not the type to go around promoting shit I don't understand and/or believe in.

Legalize it, but not this way.

If this bill doesn't get past it is going to be many, many years before it makes it on the ballot again. The only reason it made it this time is b/c of all the money behind it. And who cares about making rich richer that happens everyday at least this time the rest of us would get something out of it. And laws can be changed so it is a foot in the door if it sucks then fix it but you have to start somewhere.

The tide of public opinion has changed, I'd guess within a decade it'll be legal here. And until it is, is it really that hard to find weed?

It's a deal with the devil. The Constitutional Fucking Amendment grants exclusive grower rights to 10 companies, specifically identified by state tax ID number. That's not the sort of shit that belongs in a state constitution, it's suppose to be a framework that sets up a fair system of government in which everyone has equal opportunity. Yes, money owns politics, let's fix that rather than enshrining it in the foundation of our state's government.

And laws can be changed so it is a foot in the door if it sucks then fix it but you have to start somewhere.

Great, why didn't the moneyed interests start with a law, then?

It's because they knew they couldn't get a law passed to grant them a monopoly, even crooked-ass politicians wouldn't go for that. So they're bypassing the legislature, hijacking the constitutional referendum process, and trying to hoodwink the public. Don't fall for it. It was a bullshit move when the casinos did it, and it's a bullshit move now.

This line of thinking makes me sad

"Who gives a shit about everything else, I just want some weed, man!"

This is the crux of the issue, you are fundamentally misunderstanding the difference between a law and a constitutional amendment. That's what RO is banking on, that a bunch of misinformed stoners will blindly vote "yes for pot bruh!!!"

So pass it now because it will take too long otherwise? This is the problem with america, everybody wants something now weather its the right choice or not.

It's crazy how everything thinks that the only people that want this law passed are stoners. I'm a Chemical Dependency counselor and this could do good for so many people. It's not just stoners that need this bill passed. So far the only reason you guys have to not pass it is b/c it's an amendment. So what!, is it really that big of a difference b/w that and a law. And i know there is a difference b/w the two but i mean in the way it will work. People need medicine now not a decade from now. Along with a dozen other major benefits.

And the fact that it's writing a frikkin' cartel straight into our government charter. No, No, and a thousand times *** NO FUCKING WAY ***. It was wrong when the casinos did it, and it's wrong now.

I thought I read somewhere that you can legally grow up to 4 personal plants. This may not be correct. What isn't a monopoly anymore anyways? Major corporations create monopolies whether it was set up that way or not. This country is set up for the rich to get richer and to keep the poor, poor and the middle class pays the difference.

I heard someone say over the weekend "it doesnt matter if there is only 10 licenses. If the demand goes up, so will the licenses." I then asked them if they thought we could have a second casino, if so where is it?

After 4 years the committee has that option.

YES and if you can't wrap your head around that you should PROBABLY not be allowed to vote. It's your responsibility as an informed voter to know the fucking difference, not to say "SO WHAT IT'S NOT THAT BIG A DEAL WE'LL LET FUTURE GENERATIONS FIGURE THAT CLUSTERFUCK OUT".

There are many good reasons to vote yes on 3. There are about 10x more good reasons to vote no. If you have to ask if it's really that big a deal, consider also asking yourself "why, when making a law would be much simpler and easier to pass, would they spend so much time, money, and effort to instead push it through as a constitutional amendment? what do they stand to gain from the difference? should I maybe take a step back to analyze this issue more than 'weed should be legal'?"

I wish I could give you some positive rep for this.
