cstmg8 Posted February 20, 2016 Report Share Posted February 20, 2016 Our oldest dog Emma (almost 12) is panting and drooling constantly, and now will barely use her back legs. Doesn't whine when I put pressure on any areas, but is definitely distressed. Only change over the last week was that they got out and ran the woods/neighborhood for several hours on Wednesday. LJ Posted February 20, 2016 Report Share Posted February 20, 2016 Go to OSU. There are some choices outside of MedVet and OSU, but they dont't have board certified specialists. She is using the back legs now and doesn't appear to be in pain. They're thinking some kind of stroke or clot. She literally would just roll over when she tried to use her rear legs. Apparently veterinarian's can be cheaper in Delaware county, not sure how true this is? But she went to MedVet for a second opinion on her dogs cancer treatment. Let me be a bit more clear, She took her dog to her normal vet in Delaware county for treatment. This vet is normally much cheaper than any other vets located in Franklin. However she was still hesitant, maybe even unhappy with the treatment/diagnosis from her normal vet. So she asked around and a lot of people recommended MedVet thus she's going there for further treatment. She never attempted to try OSU, just going off advice from other's who have used both places for vet services and they all recommended MedVet. There are no costs or fees associated with the county you practice in. Veterinary prices are almost 100% overhead driven. If a practice has a paid off building, an old paid off film xray, etc. Their prices will be cheaper than other places. The market is also so saturated in Columbus that it's an industry where you can really say "you get what you pay for". As for cancer treatement, OSU and MedVet have the only board certified oncologists in central Ohio.
