Fiji ST
Friend of mine has one of these for his daily and the past two weeks, he says the power assist cuts out only when turning sharp left. If he turns sharp right, works fine. In normal driving, no issues. He has a small leak somehwere, but he keeps the fluid filled if he notices if it's dropped. Any ideas? Geeesammy
A seal within the rack is likely failing allowing fluid to bypass. Other than that not sure. Hopefully that rack doesn't suck too bad
Cordell
I'd be willing to bet there's metal in the fluid, in which case damage has been done to the rack and pump. Replacing both and flushing the lines while apart will keep it from coming back.
Fiji ST
Sounds expensive. Is there a way to check and see if there's metal in the fluid? I'm not familiar with old GMs anymore.

Fiji ST
That was a really dumb question for me to ask.
Buck531
Most likely the rack. They're not hard to replace. I DO have a non-magnasteer rack that would probably work for that car if you want to replace it for cheap. I think they go for around $200 at the parts stores. I got it used years ago and never bothered throwing it out and it didn't work for my car that I was putting on.

Buck531
I can check tonight when I'm in the garage tonight. I know it has the inner tie rods with it too. I dunno probably $50 or so. New/reman they're around $200.
