We are leaving early Thursday, September 29th and returning late that Saturday night (Oct 1), so we basically have Thursday night, all day Friday and most of the day Saturday to fill. We are staying on the New York side but have passports to flip over to Canada for the day if we need to. I haven't been to Niagara since I was 11, so over 15 years. Any recommendations given the amount of time we have? I did the Maid of the Mist last time so I'd like to do that again...is that still a thing? Any recommendations would be appreciated! There are a couple neat easy hiking trails around there too. If you are hiking in Niagara Gorge drive by the prophet Issiah's house. If you are in that region try to find a Garbage Plate. It's awful sober but the most amazing thing in the world to eat when drunk. Nick Tahou's is too far away in Rochester but I think university hots in buffalo (if it is still there) would do the job. Anchor Bar in buffalo is where the buffalo wing was invented if you want to say you ate the originals. burn the town down and avoid the Fuzz gnarly? Go to canada. My memory is really fuzzy but I remember there being like a club row in canada that I used to get into a lot of trouble in. Beer is stronger there too. My wife and I had taken our son on a football visit to University of Buffalo so we decided to go to NY side of Niagara since we were most of the way there. On Sunday afternoon we all took the walking trail that goes near the base of the falls. So it starts out a little misty and before we realize, we are totally soaked. I had not packed any other pants so I am stuck wearing soaking wet jeans. The only thing I could swap out for was a pair of my sons sweat pants. He is 6'4" and 300 lbs and wears XXL. I am 5'10" and 180. So I got to spend the rest of our day in ridiculously oversized baggy sweats. It looked like I thought I was some hip hop rapper. I just remember thinking that this is what everybody that saw me thinks I wanted to wear for the day. Make sure you go check out the falls at night. It is truly mesmerizing. Went to the canadian side a bunch of years ago.....it was cool and would love to go back at some point. When I do I'll be staying on the canadian side. Skip the NY side - pure ghetto, except for the casino, which is nice - and Gawdoski's bar which has great food, but only on Friday nights. Canadian side is touristy but fun. Go to Niagara on the Lake and spend a day there going through shops, etc. On the American side, if you are stuck there, take a trip to Lewiston - see the hydro power plant and eat at the restaurant overlooking the river in Lewiston. From there Old Fort Niagara is cool. Then take a drive up to Wilson or Olcott on Lake Ontario - not much there, but cool little towns on the lake and lots of fruit stands depending on when you go..
