My wife made masks for her and the kids too, lol. I wondered how we were gonna keep the 4 yr old safe until I saw that idea

I was just north of you, in Crofton. Perfect viewing, well worth the 795 mile roundtrip. I had terrible traffic both ways: accidents, detours, construction, very high volume.

But what a sight the total eclipse was! The disappearing perimeter of the sun just before totality, the "diamond ring," and then the eerie experience of seeing only the corona -- no disappointments for me. I saw one planet, but no stars. It was interesting how the locals do their best to make some spare income with parking and the like.

An unexpected perk was some roll racing on the way home (on the part of the trip which went through Mexico).

FYI, this Perkins Observatory expert made me pretty excited for the eclipse:

- Columbus will have 85% totality, meaning that it's going to get DARK. If it's a cloudy day, it'll get dark enough for the street lights to come on, and crickets to start up.

He was wrong. The storm that rolled through today made the sky darker than the ecplipse. Complete let down.

Pictures don't do it justice. When the next one rolls over Ohio, make sure you get out and see it.

That's freaking awesome. What are you flying? I thought you were flying cargo planes full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong?

Flew quite a lot of dog shit for a few years. Now I'm flying the T-6, teaching all the new pilots. It's a blast, the T-6 is a freakin sports car, but I can't wait to get back to cargo.

Did you ever have occasion to fly the T34C? I am curious how the Texan II stacks up against the old military bonanza. Years ago I had a chance to fly in a civilian converted T34C and while it was a rocket on takeoff an climb out, cruise felt kind of like a regular old A35 Banana. The bubble canopy was nice though.

BTW, what altitude were you at when those pics were snapped?

Why is cargo so fun? Just curious.

Getting to see the world is just incredible, and there's something cool about showing up for a flight and deciding whether to eat lunch in spain or germany. Plus the mission changes with whatever you're carrying and it can be different every flight, have had some very meaningful trips that I'll never forget.

I never flew the T-34 but a handful of guys I fly with have. It's basically a pig compared to the texan. Same basic PT-6 turboprop but the texan has about 400 more HP. The T-6 cruise is definitely faster, but still lacks power above 15k.

We had a block altitude from FL220 to 230 for the pics/vid. The controller really hooked us up
