Lauren
I've come to the conclusion that i love early and late 90's BMW best. Im lumping the E53 X5 into this since its a glorified E39. My favorites being the Z3, X5 and E34 540i or 525i with a manual. In the past month I've added a Z3 and X5 to the stable. The X5 is pulling daily duties. I picked this up in Columbus and drove it down to Bama. Thing is a tank. 3.0 so reliable engine. Full air suspension on all four corners and factory tow package. I found a dude down here in a trailer park with Alpina 4.6 20" wheels with new rubber so i grabbed them. Also grabbed a Z3 that was a 1.9 with a blown headgasket. Head was sent to machine shop and will have it back together this weekend. Im going to enjoy this one before i eventually swap in a s52 and 2.8 rear wide body panels. There is just something so simple about this era of BMW's and they are all built like tanks and do not feel cheap and plastic. I will admit,I have owned a e36 m3 and, have no desire to own a e36 again. I'm picking up a e34 this weekend to round out this era of cars. Couple pictures of the z and X Sent from my VS988 using Tapatalk

Geeto67
you know they made a stick version of that generation x5, right? Personally I am right there with you. I had 2 E34s and an E30 and loved all of them. My buddy had a Z3 that I loved driving but with the roof up I couldn't get in or out of. Mid 1990's is when BMW transitioned from "German reliable" to bleeding edge tech, and the cars, esp the e36 and E38 7 series suffered for it. -Alex-
Interesting, I’ve always thought the Z3 and X5 were ugly as hell. The color combo on this particular X5 is certainly doing it no favors.

Just dont want to daily a manual car. Plus my wife and brother in law drive and use it so its better to be auto. I'm hoping to pick up the e34 540i 6 speed. That's an awesome car. Othereise ill settle for a 525i manual or auto. Really hoping for manual

Really hoping for manual If you have to settle, settle for a 1989-1992 E34 535i. The M30 is the last of the original bmw sixes that can trace it's lineage to the E3 and E9 cars of the 60's and 70's. It's a really torque heavy I6 and really makes the car engaging to drive. I love the M20/m50 2.5 engine in the 3 series, but in the 525i the car is too heavy to make it fun. Geeto67
92 535i en route. Auto but clean and only 112k miles Nice score, is it an interesting color? E34s had some great colors. Both of mine were Green metallic over Champagne interiors and I loved them. I had a Loaner car once that was Daytona violet metallic (dark metallic purple) over white that was sharp as a tack. Except for another M car or an E9 coupe, the only other BMW I want is a manual swapped E34 touring. they never brought the 540i touring here, but they did bring the 530i baby v8 touring here which would take a 540i swap (something about the 525iT makes it harder to swap to a v8 without changing subframes) if you had a parts car. Lauren
If the swap kit wasn't 2500 it would. I'm not paying 2500 for some mounts

I've seen Sr20, 2JZ, 302 ford, ls chevy, and bmw 4.0L v8 swaps, and I have to say, the bmw v8 out of a 540i is probably the most interesting one. there was a guy on here who put a bmw v8 in an e30, I forget his name, maybe ask him what mounts he used.
