Well without police there would be no crime so you won't have to ever call the police line. If you do happen to call it just because you're curious, no one will be there to answer.

 

Last 4 times I've called CPD nobody has come out. Can I get a tax refund? Or at least a get-outta-jail-free card so I can police this shit myself?

 

But hey, the dispatchers seemed polite!

 

When I lived in an area serviced by the sheriff's dept, they came out for every call (circa 2012). Talked with the deputies many times "we have to respond to every call" was what I was told. Unusual car parked? Dog barking? YEP everything.

So a promise joe made was no taxes on anyone who made less than $400k...apparently he and the tax and spend dems think only those who make 400k drive cars.

Yes, I know it's a trial (read deeper in the article so you can see the t&s dems have put it into a bill) .

But Republicans have also been pushing it, e.g. the ones in the Ohio statehouse. That's my point. Y'all can try to make this political but it's just practical. Roads gotta get paid for.

Never weighed in on my opinion, all I did was state a fact -- my registration was $400 higher this year on one car because of a law passed by Republicans. I'm not sure how I could have stated that more blandly.

 

Really the only thing I'm miffed about is that my plug-in hybrid with 18 miles of all-electric range is assessed the same fee as a Tesla. I still buy a lot of gas with that car but the law doesn't distinguish. I think a mileage-based system would be much better, although it has its drawbacks too.

never changed my stance. you made it political about taxation and got an "L". fine for one and not the other.

 

How did I "make" it political. Mace said it was "tax and spend Dems" in a post that was 100% political. I pointed out that it was also Republicans, ergo less political.

 

Guess that didn't come through, but hopefully that helps clarify.

The dems want to tax everyone for road use EVEN if you are paying a gas tax.

 

ALSO sleepy said no taxes on anyone making less than $400k. As you always do take a line then forget everything that doesn't fit your socialist agenda.

 

In the dems 1 trillion dollar bill less than 20% actually went for real infrastructure and I haven't looked to see what they are trying to ram down out throats in this one..except a tax to drive for everyone even after i pay a gas tax.

I did read the link, and I appreciate that you did as well. Democrats have earmarked a bit of money to pilot alternatives to the federal gas tax in certain states.

 

My plug-in hybrid is barely an EV. I get about 44mpg overall when taking account my all electric range. Which is good, but not a whole let better than a lot of new cars that aren't hybrids. The Ohio law assesses a $200/year fee on pure EVs and plug-in hybrids, and $100/year on conventional hybrids. Which, again, I get, roads gotta get paid for and gas tax revenues are going down. But a Tahoe hybrid getting hit with a $100/year registration fee because it's a hybrid while a Honda Fit doesn't get hit with anything is sort of... well it's a strange compromise. The Tahoe is already paying a shitload in gas taxes, but because it gets 13mpg city instead of 12 (or whatever these things get, I'm not a truck person), it gets hit with a higher fee. It's all just a bit random.

So do Republicans. My only point really. The Ohio law was written, voted on, and signed into law by Republicans.

That's your beef with Sleepy Joe, I don't care what promises he made about $400k this or that. Also I'm a libertarian not a socialist.

I believe he is referencing the pay per mile tax that is in the infrastructure bill passed by the federal government and the statement of a federal official to not raise taxes. The state tax on hybrid/electric cars is a separate topic.

 

tl:dr - Federal President, no new taxes <$400k earners. Federal Government, new tax per mile driven.

There's federal dollars involved but states will actually be collecting the mileage taxes. I initially thought the same thing as Kerry but then I read the WHOLE article (ahem, Kerry) and I guess it's open to interpretation. It's also pretty clear that Biden was talking about federal income taxes but I don't have a dog in this fight, if people want to call sleepy Joe a liar in this issue I'm not going to get into the weeds.

Perhaps it would behoove you to read an article or reply in it's entirety before firing back with a snap judgment going forward. Food for thought.

 

I feel like that is directed at me so I'll field this one from Otis in Troll mode.

 

I mean Mace has made comments in the past that he sees the whole thing as just one big entity and not many entities working at different levels so it's hardly a "snap" judgement.

 

Also, I did see the mention of the federal highway trust and a federal program to collect mileage tax, but it was almost a throwaway comment with no details as to how it would work or be collected. All of Mace's comments were directed at the state programs and how they would work which is what was discussed in detail.

 

I guess if you really were trying to meet Mace's crazy ramblings more than halfway you could say it's open to interpretation, no slight intended to greg who is going out of his way to have a conversation with Mace who by his own demonstration fires off uninformed snap judgements like farts after dinner.

 

Since we are talking about federal mileage taxes - it is interesting as to how they would work. Are they like a gas guzzler tax where it's a flat rate assessed based on expected amount driven? The Federal government has no current registration or mileage reporting scheme so to build one on top of the one the states already have seems like a silly waste. Would they just assess the tax against the state and leave it to the state to collect it on their behalf? From my perspective the federal gov't needs a commodity that gets used based on mileage to tax (like gasoline) and may look to the power industry, but that won't yield significant revenues. I'm generally curious as to how this is going to work in practice.
