FORT WORTH - A picture on the cover of the New York Times tells an interesting story.

It's war and when combat calls, soldiers answer, even in their undies.

The man wearing the pink boxers in the photo is from Fort Worth.

The picture came out Tuesday.

Army specialist, Zachary Boyd, got to his parents, just before the paper did, calling them from Afghanistan.

"He said, "Mom, I made the cover of the New York Times ,'" said Sheree Boyd.

"I just thought it would be him on patrol," said Tommy Boyd.

"I thought, well, somebody in the family's making it into the paper, so I was excited," said Sheree Boyd.

Then they saw the picture.

The cover of the New York Times, seen by more than a million subscribers, showed specialist Zachary Boyd fighting the Taliban in his boxers, pink boxers, to be exact.

"I just died laughing I couldn't believe it. I laughed for ten minutes straight," said Tommy Boyd.

"These were pink boxers that say 'I love NY' that he got when he was stranded in New York City," said Sheree Boyd.

"He was resting and then he said they just started getting shot at, so instead of taking the time to pull his pants on and everything, he just put his helmet on, his body armor on, grabbed his gun and went out," said Tommy Boyd.

The Boyds say their son wanted to join the Army after watching reports of the September 11th attacks as a little boy.

He left for Afghanistan last year, barely 19 years old.

His mother sees those pink, I love New York boxers, as a sign her son's sense of humor is still intact.

"I'm sure that was in the back of his mind, kind of thumbing his nose at the Taliban, you know," she said.

It's a message the family plans to pass along, one autographed copy of the paper at a time.

The higher ups commended him on not wasting any time getting out there to defend himself. The boxers are from some restaraunt back where he's from and they are getting(or already got) this picture and I think the boxers to hang up in the joint.

Thats awesome!!! As for the boxers Chevy, the video says (the mother in the video says) that the boxers, that say I Love NY on them, were bought in NY when he got stranded out there once. That is pretty funny, i can honestly say I have never got in a firefight in my underwear. ha ha
