What route do you "dayton area" guys normally take. 70 to 555. then 555 back up 70 then home. I might be doing this sunday and i am trying to keep this under an eight hour adventure.

Well if your set on 555 and need to make time, run it south, then 32 west to 56 west by Athens, theres some good twistys around there that go past Hocking hills and then motor 56 back to 70 and home. To bad you dont have more time, there some great stuff over around Marietta too.

Run 26 north to south... sweet!

I dunno, 555 isn't worth a big straight commute just to hit, IMHO. If you focused on getting down to Circleville from Dayton (shorter than 70 all the way to Zanesville), you could do 56 over to Hocking Hills, do 374 North to Rockbridge, then 33 down to Nelsonville and 78 through Burr Oak (great twisties), then catch 555 north back to Zanesville and 70 home. You could do all that in 8 hours easy, and you'll get enough of 555 to know why I suggested the other roads. ;)

I think im going with Swingsets route. bustin across 70 and back was not sounding like fun. thanks for the input!

You'll dig that loop, trust me....374 & 78 put you through some of the most beautiful areas of the state, and neither are heavily traveled but paved well.

Yeah, Swinset has it almost right. From London on rt56 I usualy head to 278 just past 328, then North into Nelsonville where I catch 78 to Ringold and 555. From 555 and 50 I might run West on 50 back to 278 north to 56W or 50 into McArthur then North on 93 to 664 via a back road or further West to catch 327N past Tar Hollow back to 56 and on home. There are so many options. :)

Yeah, Swinset has it almost right.

Story of my life.

I was tryin to get as many good SR twisties in a ride without making it an all-day affair, and the route I suggested is pretty good that way...you can run it in a few hours but it's still got a lot of great sections. If I were devoting more time to it, I could make some more suggestions that incorporate some side roads that are fun.

I was only teasing you. ;) There's no wrong way to run that area because even the "boring roads" are fun. :D

I'm thinking of doing a similar ride Saturday. I'll be coming from west C-bus going south to Circle-tucky and heading 56 west to 278 to Nelsonville and then the route is the same.

Good Luck!

20thGix.....I think I'll bow out of this one. I'm looking for something a little more aggressive and prob a little more time than you guys want to put in. Just looking to release some stress a little.

No problem. One of the guys going is on a pretty tight time frame. Have fun!

Had no complaints with 78, it was pretty good. 555 was good for a while with some occasional asphalt patching here and there and after it hits 37 at Portersville you'll hit a few patches of gravel, some more patchwork asphalt repairs with tar-edge lines and then some kind of utility project that is putting some mud on the highway.

But that's it and it wasn't bad by any stretch. Overall a pretty good ride.

Were you riding around Laurelville this morning? Someone with a bike much like the one in your avitar was back and forth then went in the grocery store as we got ready for the gravel road ride leaving from the gas station. :)
