Isn't calling Al Sharpton a "reverend" considered slander?

Anyone can be a reverend in this country. I'm a legally ordained minister, and an absolute hardline atheist. Go fig.

Although, I certainly have little patience for these douchebag self-promoters who claim to speak for the black community. Sharpton certainly doesn't represent me, and I don't recall getting a vote. MLK didn't have to go around claiming to be a leader, he just was. If Sharpton ever did anything that actually benefitted black Americans, it was entirely coincidental, a by-product of serving himself.

Of course, there's an easy way to recognize a real black leader-- they're the ones who always get assassinated. People who try to do genuine good by altering the status quo tend to get shot at eventually. Sharpton will never have to fear such a fate, because life for the useless is eternal.

Sorry, the word Sharpton is like Pavlov's bell for me. :p

Both Al and Jesse make their living off promoting racism. Anytime someone forms a group, sets themselves apart and demands something from others whether it be respect, money or some other benefit, it gives everyone else a target to focus on and a stereotype to believe in....... thus..... racism extended for another day.

Any man who goes about his business and does well for himself without asking others to do for him will be respected by 99.9% of the people.

Both those guys have been selling out their own race under the guise of helping them, just to make a buck. Both would go broke if they didnt promote racism.

Just my .02......

You mean people like Malcom X? He's the only "black leader" that I can recall being assassinated (other than MLK). Of course, the Nation of Islam is a separatist movement that believes only black people can solve the world's problems (much the same way that white supremacists believe only whites should be in power).

W.E.B. DuBois (founder of the Niagara movement - a forerunner to the NAACP) wasn't assassinated - he just renounced his citizenship, became a communist and moved to Ghana.

Maybe you're talking about Ella Baker, one of the SCLC's and NAACP's most influential female members? Nope, not assassinated either (although later in life she did abandon many of the SCLC principles in favor of a more "socialist" agenda).

Marcus Garvey? Wrong again. One of the most influential black leaders of the 1920's he founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association. Ultimately he was convicted of mail fraud and died in obscurity in Jamaica.

Honestly maybe you could enlighten us on those black leaders that have been shot at?
