oldschoolsdime92
I bought a new tv last week, and it only has a digital audio out, no RCA's, so I am after a cheap surround sound setup that has the digital audio optical input. Anyone have anything?
S-13
How cheap is cheap? My brother has two surround sound systems. I'm gonna see him Wednesday, I can ask how much he'd be willing to let one go for.
oldschoolsdime92
nothin big. i really just need the receiver. I found an rca system at walmart for like 70 bucks with a receiver that will work like i want. Ask and see what he says and we can go from there. smashweights
yamaha has some great HTiB setups that have really good receivers paired with ok speakers for like $300-something. supposedly great to start with and just upgrade the speakers later and it's sweet. oldschoolsdime92
ive got a ps3 i use for blue ray. I have speakers that i already use, my reciever just does not have the digital audio in. I cant have anything too outragous because I live in a double. I don't want to deal with my neighbors! oldschoolsdime92
i love denon, but for the purpose i want this for, thats going to be overkill
ohdaho
denon is the wy to goi dont think Denon is in his budget.OldSchool, youre going to have to give more info for any help. Budget, speaker setup, required inputs/outputs, what you plan on using it for. There are alot of setups out there. I certainly wouldnt skimp to much though esp if you plan on using your blu ray player to the fullest potential.
oldschoolsdime92
i bought a random RCA setup at walmart about an hour ago. Budget isnt the issue, I have always gone way overkill on my audio setups weather it be house or car or garage. I was happy just using my two technics three ways with a 15 in woofer in the bottem. My receiver is old. My new tv did not have rca audio outs. It only had a digital optical out for sound. Therefore I needed a different receiver. Tomcat0403
they should have told you...its well known that some tvs have DO ports and not a stereo output, that's all I was saying.
gruss
save up or buy used instead of getting some cheap POS from walmart. Marantz or Denon can usually be had reasonable if a few years old. seriously I have a Marantz that I think is like 90w/ch thats about 7 years old and will smoke anything out there you can buy for 70 bucks or whatever.... probobly wouldnt ask alot of $ for it but the kids jam their Miley on it so can't sell it now...you might also be able to find dirt cheap or free an old old DD decoder, I would of given you mine (from back in the days that recvrs didnt have digital inputs) but I wired up the garage recently and use it as a pre-amp out there, instead of looking for a pos recvr since I don't use 2 of the channels on the Rotel anyway in the family room. I'll check around tho, might have a bud looking to unload something, or might have something laying around in the basement.
Putty
I got a NIB system you can get for $125. Like 6 piece with sub. I bought it and put in basement. Never used. Edited December 5, 2009 by Putty
