i have the field one as well, i just thought that one was pretty.

Now for home defense, i have a Winchester 1300 20ga. chopped with pistol grip and 3 rd extension. Nice, short and light. i love it.

this was before the extension and the heat shield.

870 has always been my choice for home defence. I bought the short barrel with the extended tube. It makes trap and skeet shooting a little more challenging. I like that if I have to use it inside my house I won't have to worry about the long barrel giving me away around corners. I don't have to keep the gun held straight up or down and can keep it shouldered so its ready if I need to shoot.

Here is my parts list for my rem 870 home defense weapon of choice.

Rem 870 express. 280 new... mine was a christmas present from my parents.

Cut smooth bore barrel down to close to 18 1/8. Hacksaw and a file!

Swap out wood furniture for plastic pistol grips. 20 dollars for the pair at gun show

Install cheap sling. 20 dollars at gun show.

Total 320 dollars. I got 40 in mine cause it was a present obviously.

My 870 Express went 47/50 shooting trap today. After 6-7000 rounds it's broke in quite nice... it was a little tight when new.
