Disclaimer
Replacing an old one? Or totally new install?
AOW
if you're replacing an old one, it should be a direct swap using the wiring diagram that came with the new. Different HVAC manufacturers use different wire color codes with no rhyme or reason. Best advice I can offer up is to remove one wire at a time from the old and connect it to the new or at the very least take a photo of the old and write down what color wire went to what spot on the old T-stat
joshfz.2008
We did a complete remodel and someone else removed the old thermostat, then I moved the wiring. I think I might bite the bullet and call someone.
jporter12
Google is your friend!Seriously:http://highperformancehvac.com/hvac-thermostat-wire-colors-terminal-designations-and-thermosat-color-charthttp://highperformancehvac.com/thermostats-wiring-how-to-wire-thermostat-colors-installationJust make sure the wires are right at the furnace end, then duplicate it at the thermostat end. The first link describes what each wire/terminal does, then the second starts talking about how a standard system is connected.
