Cleveland Area Static Speed Radar Guns

Anyone notice on 71( I drive it everyday) 480, and 77 all the small radar guns mounted every fukin 100' on signs and over passes? I use a Passport 8500 and towards the end of last year i started noticing that it was picking up K band all the time on my drive to work on 71. The signal would just blast every 30 seconds like as if im right infront of the man pulling the trigger himself. I started thinking the 8500 was screwed up again. But after while it seemed that it was just on the Interstate. Then i noticed small Radar guns with solar panels mounted on every pole, bridge, barrel and shithouse on these freeways I mentioned. Im guessing this is some weak attempt at a cloaking device by the HWP. It just shoots random K band, which is harmless but if you have a radar detector its quite annoying. Ive gotten used to it and realize what it is as soon as it picks it up.

Funny thing is the large majority of Rollers use KA and X in this area so its not doing a great job at that if its meant to slow down vehicles using RDs. People who have them are prob gonna figure it out eventually due to how strange the signal and intervals are. I have to wonder how much that cost the state, because there are shit loads of them. To someone who is just passing through and unaware im sure it will catch you off guard. Anyway just a heads up.

supposedly, it's part of the traffic monitoring system. i don't know if you've seen those big amber bulb signs that tells you how many minutes to get to downtown or 71, or etc... but the radars monitors how fast traffic is moving along the roads.

its what Jinu said...otherwise I would be racking up a shit ton of money in speeding fines on 480

i know they added a bunch of these on 77 where the widened it between rockside and miller rd in brecksville but I've lived in that area and travelled that stretch so much you have be ballsy or have a bad ass radar detector to speed through that section, almost always a cop from 1 of the 3 cities

There are intentions to add even more automatic cameras and radar in Columbus. Not just at the bad intersections. The one I remember, is gear in patrol cars at school zones. To monitor and check the speed on all traffic while the patrol car is there.

Somebody figured out that the school zone is open with reduced speeds for only 30 minutes. A ticket takes at least 10 minutes to write. Ergo, use speed cameras in the cars and catch them all. Chaching

I've seen one in Bexley, although it could have been a fake.

I was going to post something about this too. Drives me nuts on 71. Kind of figured it was some monitoring scheme like that. Like that movie Eagle Eye that was on over the weekend, more data points for Big Brother....

It's the same in NEO on 271, like others said, part of the traffic systems.

A co-worker told me about his radar detector (I took mine off cuz it was driving me crazy), the newer Escort Passports have GPS in them, if they detect the same signal in the same area 3 times in a row it disables that signal (but doesn't disable if a second were to pop up)

Too rich for my blood, but w/e

good wrote up, I always wondered what those were/if i could get a ticket on them. Did there job by slowing my ass down.

I barely stopped past the crosswalk at summit and 11th this past summer during the middle of the night to be bombarded by flashing camera lights as if they were the paparazzi. Never got a ticket sent my way though

I think they look at both sets of pictures, if they get your front plates but they don't get the rear they don't ticket since you didn't cross.

but someone else may know for sure.

Yeah, I hit these all the time on 20/10/480 with my passport 8500 and just assumed it was someones home security system or something setting it off so I do like 80 past them everyday and haven't gotten a single ticket(knocks on wood)

I havent seen a single one with an actual camera. I think like the guys said they are just for traffic monitoring.

Me either, I just know my detector goes crazy in the exact same spots every day and I have never seen a cop or camera in those locations.

Hmmm... interesting. I will have to start paying attention. I hope those Republicans cut taxes so much they won't be able to afford to operate them, if they are in fact speed cameras,

They are all over Cbus now too, they've been in the Cinci area for awhile.

Running a radar detector anymore is about useless, it just goes off all the damn time.

They are either for traffic monitoring like mentioned or they are simply dummy deterents to slow down people with radar

detectors that aren't smart enough to realize what/where they are.
