crb Posted June 10, 2011 Report Share Posted June 10, 2011 I need to install saddlebags on my wife's sportster. I have the brackets, bags, and turn signal relocation kit. To install brackets I need to remove the shock which is where my question comes in. When I take the shock bolt out its going to extend and I'm not sure by how much. Any special technique to doing this task? Should I place a jack to support the rear fender? Is it better to do it with the bike straight up and down or on the kick stand?Whew can I get a shock adjustment tool? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Casper Posted June 10, 2011 Report Share Posted June 10, 2011 I know when I lowered my ZX10 the first time, I held the bike up on my shoulder while my wife removed the bolts, replaced the links, then put the bolts back in. I'm assuming it's the same concept. The second time, I used a piece of 1/2" steel bar through the passenger pegs on both sides. Buddy grabbed one side, I grabbed the other, and my wife did the link swap. The second way worked a whole lot better than me holding the damn thing on my shoulder.
