So when the heck did tent camping get so expensive? I have been check the state parks and a few other camp grounds. They want $25 and up a night in the state parks and the campgrounds are around $40 a night to TENT camp. Anyone know of any areas that are cheaper to set up a tent for like 4 days at? looking around the hocking hills area, or have also looked around lake hope area.

Check this list:

These are supposedly cheap (somewhere in Ohio):

$19.90, 2 people - Country Acres Campground, 330.358.2774 (9850 Minyoung Road, Ravenna)

Crystal Springs Campground, 440.748.3200 (31478 Bagley Road, North Ridgefield)

Friendship Acres Park, Inc., 330.325.9527 (2210 SR 44, Randolph)

Kenisee's Grand River Camp & Canoe, 440.466.2320 (4680 Route 307, E. Geneva)

$34, Mar-Lynn Lake Park, 330.650.2552 (187 SR 303, Streetsboro)

$20 Primitive River, Mohican Reservation Campgrounds & Canoeing, 800.766.2267 (23270 Wally Road, Loudonville)

Punderson State Park, 800.282.7275 (11755 Kinsman Road, Newbury)

$10/adult, $1/kids, Ridge Ranch Family Campgrounds, 330.898.8080 (5219 St. Route 303, Newton Falls)

Sky Ranch, 440.235.2473 (27955 Terrace Drive, North Olmsted)

Wahoo Lounge & Campground, 440.934.4625 (5504 Colorado Avenue, Lorain)

$29, Woodside Lake Park, 330.626.4251 (2256 Frost Road, Streetsboro)

You're right, some not cheap. And they don't list rates on line. You'll have to call.

Thanks recon thats the sites I have been looking at already. I think the kao by lake hope wants $40 a night for the six of us to tent camp there. I am a cheap bastid and just can't see spending the price of a cheap hotel room on setting my tent up somewhere.

Well, ok, I'll give you a very well kept secret. Super Wal-Marts will let you camp behind thier stores. I know it sounds nuts, but I have to tell you, it is wonderful.

They are open 24 hrs, they have groceries, they have a clean washroom, they have things you need, they have ammunition, if you carry.

Just hit up the manager of the store and ask permission. And since you are behind the store, your interaction with the WM people will be limited.

You have nothing to lose by asking, all they can say is no, but I have never been turned down, and I have done this in 10 diff. states.

JMHO, good luck on your search.

Ride safe all.

Greg
