Because noisemakers and pepper spray are better? I'd rather have an airhorn blaring while being maced than shot with a .22.

Actually yes for animals. What you obviously dont understand is that animals dont realize they are shot or what the hell a bullet even is. So unless its a nasty damaging round that hit bone or vitals you've effectively done jack shit. They are however have very sensitive to sounds and smells.

Do some hunting on larger animals besides varmits and you will learn this really quick.

I think reading the summary of rules and description of the Sub2000, that the Sub2000 would be a banded gun in Canada, or atleast a restricted gun. The shotgun would be much less of a problem with border guards.

So, camping in beer country in North America isn't a great idea without a firearm. Can't take a handgun into Canada very easily (not an option for me at this point). I need a long gun. I need a short long gun, something that can easily be packed on the bike. Torn down to fit is fine with me. Will be packed most of the time, pulled out and put together only when camping in bear country (which isn't every night). It's been suggested to use a Mossburg 500 pistol grip, but even torn down it's still nearly 30". I'm looking for something smaller if possible that will still be considered a long gun. Fire away.

M1 carbine....

Lever action saddle rifle. 30-30, 30-06 or 308. Maybe find one that breaks to two parts.

edit: the rifle of choice in Canada is an bolt action Enfield 30-06. Sporterized it would be somewhat shorter.

And yeah, bear strength pepper spray in bear country is a must.

And now that I look at the Mossberg JIC-II broken down in it's bag, I like it.

But I still think pistol grip only shotguns can't hit anything unless it's really close.
