TheBrown57
http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/01/19/feds-shut-down-file-sharing-website/The indictment is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States, according to the FBI. It accuses seven individuals and two corporations -- Megaupload Limited and Vestor Limited -- of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment, which was unsealed on Thursday, says that at one point Megaupload was the 13th most popular website in the world.I really like that site too
Casper
Wow. That sucks. I use that site to send large, legitimate files to people like raw video I've shot and whatnot.

serpentracer
so when is the industry going to start going after the guy who loans his buddy his movie? because people have been doing that ever since the vcr came out.
serpentracer
Who wants to start a pool on how long it take TPB to suffer the same fate?are you talking about the pirate bay? then probably can't touch them. they don't have anything stored on servers. the industry has tried and failed in the past to put a stop to torrents.the best they could ever do was shut down napster. torrents are just a tool. just like firefox is. going after a torrent link site is like going after mozilla for letting you use your browser to find the sites that link to torrents.the best hope for the industry with torrents are calling your isp about your download history. which they can monitor pretty easily. they tell your isp what you've been downloading they in turn send you a letter telling you to stop or they will have to take legal action.so that's where software like peerblock come in. it blocks anyone from seeing your downloads. and trust me, when it's running you be frigging amazed who and how many places are watching you on the internet. serpentracer
lol, check out what pirate bay says about sopa....http://static.thepiratebay.org/legal/sopa.txthere's your answer to that question about stopping tpb...SOPA can't do anything to stop TPB. Worst case we'll change top level domain from our current .org to one of thehundreds of other names that we already also use. In countries where TPB is blocked, China and Saudi Arabia springs tomind, they block hundreds of our domain names. And did it work? Not really. chrisknight
TPB doesn't actually contain copyrighted material on their sites/servers though right? ...Just torrents that point your torrent client to the location of bits/pieces of the files/copyrighted material.. JStump
Looks like Anonymous is striking back! http://gizmodo.com/5877679/anonymous-kills-department-of-justice-site-in-megaupload-revenge-strikeAnd there have been so many tries to kill TPH yet they keep coming back, I think this is the most recent time they tried to take it down.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pirate_Bay_raidSince the raid, Pirate Bay stated their disaster recovery plan of "a few days" worked correctly, but that they are now moving to redundant servers both in Belgium and Russia, and an aim of a few hours restoration time, should the servers be disrupted again. Following the raid the number of Pirate Bay users grew from 1 million to 2.7 million. The number of peers grew almost 5 times, from 2.5 million to 12 million.[1] It has been reported that the Pirate Bay claims more than 5 million active users. Internet traffic ranker Alexa.com ranks Pirate Bay as the 113th most popular website in the world.[18]I don't think they are going anywhere lolThis is a good film about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steal_This_Film Edited January 19, 2012 by JStump

Is that how this normally works?
JStump
I want to say that is how it happens sometimes. I am sure if they are found not guilty they will get it back but since they used the money they gained from megaupload to purchase the stuff, it is kinda part of the trial. I could be completely wrong but think of it like a drug bust, anything they bought with drug money is confiscated normally right? Same thing here just with movies and software.
