bertman85
OK. So i have hit the tip of my shoe multiple times this year while in corners. I am considdering switching it to 1 up 5 down to gain clearance in the corners. Anyone with GP shifting pattern, please leave feedback. My main question is how long does it take to re-train your mind? Any other input is welcomed!
jbot
I wouldn't want to be a presumptuous bastard... but stop duck footing it and or get to the track.
blue03636
^I would say this is more your problem. Make sure your on the balls of your feet when riding. That being said I love gp shift.
Helmutt
I always ride on the balls of my feet......maybe that explains the swelling and ache when I pee:dunno:
4DAIVI PAI2K5
It took me no time to learn it. I have rode bikes since I was 5 years old using standard shirt.I could switch back and forth no problem between my triumph and my sumo. But as the others said get on the balls of your feet and you wont have a clearance problem.

gixxie750
Do it! I can ride any way once I know what the pattern is. It only takes one wrong shift to teach you lol
madcat6183
LoL. I thought this thread was going to be about really odd gearing configs.Me too boss. I was like WTF are you doing with 5 teeth changes unless you are really changing up something big internally lol.

Hollywood33
That being said I love gp shift. That being said, he still keeps a large, retard proof sticker on his gas tank that reminds him that it is indeed GP SHIFT.
blue03636
it's for the crash truck retards
redkow97
I changed my street bike over and had 2 almost oh-shit moments, but never fully released he clutch going down when I meant to go up. I would strongly advise changing over on the street, where you're not forced to change gears at redline. Once you're comfortable, then hit the track. All that said, I like GP shift, but have to say I feel I am more likely to miss down shifts under braking than up shifts on acceleration. The opposite was never true with standard shift. attentiongetter92
I've thought about it as well. Although I was just going to put it up on a stand to run through the gears 20 times for the muscle memory portion of it. I granny shift too so it wouldn't be so bad if I messed up. redkow97
I think I actually taped a pretty big sign to my gas tank to remind myself for the first few rides. It helped a lot at stop lights. Made sure I went up instead of down trying to grab first.

blue03636
Not sure if they still do but wera use to make you mark it.Yes they do.aa) All machines must have a sticker placed on the triple clamp or gas tank reading “GP” or “STD” depending on the shift pattern used by your machine. These stickers will be available at tech. Edited April 3, 2012 by blue03636

cOoTeR
Maybe also try getting a little off the side of the bike when you turn. The bike will turn more but lean less = more clearance. Add that to proper foot position and you won't need to change the bike.
redkow97
As a related bit of advice, I would strongly reccomend marking the shift pattern on your TANK, and not on the gauges. My gauges managed to separate themselves from the rest of my bike during their 90 mph off-road adventure. the sticker on the face of my gauges was no help to the crash truck guys. Luckily I was conscious (although in retrospect, too dazed to be any help).
