jblosser
Windows? AVG, http://free.grisoft.comedit: Linux? Just chroot jail a browser. Come to think of it, you should do that in Windows, too. Or run a VM of Windows for browsing on your Windows box. SJC1000rr
MSE and Malwarebytes for random scans is all I've ever used and never had a problem.
ScubaCinci
If its a pc then I would say microsoft security essentials^^^thisNo one app is perfect but MSE is free, integrates nicely, is low on resource demand and works very well. jblosser
I <think> if you run Windows Updates it'll be an optional download.

serpentracer
I got 2 viruses using MSE. so I'm not a big fan but it has caught 3 or 4 other things. and I do not browse porn etc. they were from links in searches using google. so I stopped using google and haven't had issues with hoax websites in searches since. Pokey
Wonder what Redbarron77 uses, obviously he is checking its protection ability quite often.
vf1000ride
AVG is what I run. I used to use Avira but they started to get crazy with the pop-up windows trying to force you to upgrade to the paid version. Pissed me off so I switched. chevysoldier
Microsoft security essentials here. Used to run nod32.
imprez55
Avira Antivirus, bar-none for me. They consistently get the highest number of positive detections then any other paid/free antivirus programs in the stats I have read. It also gets the highest number of false-positives, so if you know what is good and supposed to be there on your computer you won't have a problem but will have to label a few things as safe. If you don't know your system that well or what you install then I would recommend AVG.
crf69
Norton here.Slows my shit down like a mutherfucker but has never let me down.
twowheelsnake
Your best antivirus is to not buy Windows in the first place
conn-e-rot
I have AVG on desktop but put Avast on the laptop both seem fine but I think Avast scans a bit faster.
jporter12
I bought Nod32. I don't even notice it running. I WAS running MSE, as well, but I just looked down and it isn't in the system tray. Maybe I just never installed it on this computer? I haven't even had a virus pop up in forever. I even use IE from time to time (for stuff for work that won't run on Chrome.) Tomcat0403
Never liked norton for the reason that it always slowed down my computer. Just d/l MSE and using firefox. Last comp i had I actually never had AV software, just used firefox and if i had a problem i ID'd itand search for the solution on google. Hopefully this will be good enough to keep the comp running and secure. Thanks for all of the input, absolutely love my computer.
