No less than 20" bbl. Scope pkg included would be nice, but possibly upgrade that later once I get familiar with the weapon. Not wanting to break the bank either, somewhere in the $500-$700 range. Poking around Gander Mountain online and finding interest in these, or a facsimile thereof....Howa Hogue TargetmasterRemington 700 SPSAxis PredatorAnyone have inhand experience with any of these? I'd inherited a Rem 30.06 bolt that was primarily a shelf ornament, but I did shoot it as a teen - it was traded off a few years ago for something more home defense oriented. Go to a shooting forum to look for shooting advice from "experienced shooters" This site will get you moto information with a few people that know firearms and even fewer that actually know what they are talking about especially when talking about a precision bolt rifle.Head over to Snipershide.com to get more factual answers to your question. This question is even a stickied topic there so you have a vast wealth of knowledge in 1 place.FYI, Here is a thread listing out ALL the equipment being used by some of the top shooters winning the competitions in the use. Pokey Posted December 5, 2012 Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 I guess it depends on what you will be using/wanting the rifle for Flounder, plenty of great "shooters" using much cheaper rifles and optics out there than the latter with great results. I see so much money that "I consider" a total waste of money being spent on high end rifles and optics, unless it is for competition or bragging rights. Do snipers spend vast amounts of money like that on their rifle and optics, compared to what some civilians spend? I have a good friend with some serious high end shit when it comes to long distance rifles and optics, and that to me takes some of the fun and challenge out of it. Of course I am a cheap ass and always like the best bang for the buck. My rifle would be for hunting only, but I can see how money can easily be spent like water with all the goodies and options out there. As said earlier this year, you will be able to make modifications and improvements to the Remington, but the Savage is more limited to performance changes.
