I'm going to try something new. In the past we had people buy months, and they could put whatever picture they wanted for that month. It was kinda cool, but I don't really want to go through that hassle again. So I got to thinking... What about printable OR monthly calendars? Essentially, it'd just be an 8.5x11 PDF which you could download and print yourself. I use something similar every month at work. A calendar without a picture of a bike or something motorcycle related would be boring. Here's where the contest comes in... Rules: - Anyone can submit a photo, but it must be their photo (or at least have the rights to use it). - Anything motorcycle related is fair game. - Images are to be posted in this thread no later than February 25th at midnight. - Images must be at least 800x600, preferably larger. - Images must be work safe. - The mods/admins will pick their favorites, then put it to a vote to the site. - Calendar PDF files will be available for download by the 1st of the month. As of right now the winner doesn't get anything other than bragging rights. In the future we may incorporate some sort of prize. Now this is new for me, so please be patient. I'm sure there are bugs in this process we'll have to work out. Disclaimer: By submitting a photo, you're acknowledging you have the rights to use the photograph (it ain't stolen, you took it), and you're giving Ohio Riders the right to use it as we see fit.1 point

...To FINALLY do my first freakin' trackday already!!! Time to see what the ol' girl's still got in her..... hopefully she doesn't blow up, hahah But yea, some arm twisting was involved by my buddy being I wasn't planning on doing any trackdays until later this summer, but it was really too good of a deal to pass up. Basically a free trackday, it's pretty much just gonna cost me gas to get there and back (1400 mi round trip), and my buddy offered to help out with gas even just cuz he wants me to get out on the track with him so bad, lol. I've just gotta work tech/registration/whatever the dude running the trackday (a buddy of mine) needs help with for a little bit to cover the cost of the trackday, then the rest of the day is mine. I must say, I'm pretty excited! Should be a good time Doing it at Palm Beach Int'l Raceway in West Palm Beach, FL on the 20th of this month. I'm gonna feel like a n00b all over again!1 point

I have had to see a few head doc's in my younger years. Hell had to see one last summer for a little while due to some legal trouble I got in ha ha ha. They have all told me the same things, which is just what you have told me I have known I was that type of person for years. As far as the cousins statement I made that is more to show that solid stern parenting in whatever shape and form results in better results than what their parents practiced. That was something along the lines that tv and an xbox will baby sit while you can go get drunk... And my man you are all good. You have not even gotten a rise out of me yet and have not seen a single bit of name calling out of you or anything else you have listed. You are fun to debate with, more than likely you are the most fun on this entire forum because you are educated, confident in your feelings, and you do not resort to the low ball comments alot of people around here turn to, ( usually due to lack of education, or general mis understanding with how things work).1 point

I know what being Alpha in the world of dogs refers to. I have seen the show, and have done my fair share of reading too, but I have never come across a training situation where you use fear and pain to raise a loyal dog. Besides, this conversation is about kids not dogs. I can't comment on your fathers teaching/breeding but I can say there's a huge difference in how you raise a pack of 13 hunting dogs vs. a child. So you agree that a child learns through watching thier parents behaviors? What type of behavior do you think a child learns when his parents hit them? So your saying the act of spanking a child is teaching them? Consequences? You think physically hitting a child drives the understanding of consequences home further than ANY other means? WOW ~perhaps we shoud punch our kids in the gut when they get a B on a test ~Perhaps we should kick them in the balls for a C. ~Fuck, I'm going to bit the living piss out of my kid if he brings home a D. Yep, that will teach him. However, it's WHAT it will teach him that I fear more than any bad grade he'll bring home. And you think that's healthy? You mean to say your live your life based on fear and consequences? That's scary. I live my life completely differently. I don't follow rules because I fear consequences, nor will I raise my kids to live that way. They will live life doing "the right thing" because that's what contributing members of society do. How to Win Friends and Influence People. It's a great book. Seven Habits of Highly Successful People is another good one. Neither references spanking kids or fearing consequences. Again, I've not said you'd be an axe murder for it. I just choose not to give my kid as ass beating as I know there's a different and what my wife and I consider a better way. I don't want my kid growing up thinking that ass beatings are the way to teach or that violence is the way to solve a problem. The main difference isn't in the structure, it's in the person. Humans are self aware and that's the #1 thing that separates us from dogs and other animals. Children even at a very young age have the ability to think and not just act on instinct. It's up to the parents to Teach and Instill Values. You can be the alpha dog in your family with your pets, but keep in mind, in Wolfe packs, the Alpha dog is ALWAYS under threat form the others who are looking to take his spot. ALWAYS. They don't just die, they get sick or hurt and are then killed. Survival of the fittest as they say. Humans have learned to live together and use our resources including our actions and thoughts to better our lives and that's something that other animals can never learn. We as parents have to instill those behaviors in our kids so that they will in turn respect rules and others. Otherwise, many, not you, but many, will just go around feeling violence solves problems. I for one will never worry about my kid growing up anxiously awaiting to be an Alpha. He'll earn that through trust and respect.1 point

I once saw some import with a bumper sticker that said, "it burns rice, AND American cars." I think that was on a blown S2000 or something though; not a civic. I chuckled.1 point

You need to stop thinking that physical violence is the only way to "sternly" punish someone. By all accounts (my family, friends, etc.) I am an incredibly stern parent, I just don't yell and I don't hit. There's better ways to get through to kids, I'm convinced of it. I say again, answering to authority does not have to involve physical punishment or draconian measures like solitary confinement. You seem to think there's two options, spanking your kids or letting them get away with everything. You can be strict and non-violent. It just takes effort. I never suggested there was. You, however, suggested that the lack of spanking is the reason things have gotten worse, which is just as ridiculous an assertion, primarily because things aren't getting worse. No you didn't, you defended physical violence towards kids. I'm attacking it. I'm confident in my approach to parenting, and I'm also confident that violence is inferior. Get your cut rate pop psychology out of here. Tell your dad that we don't want kids with social problems in the military. I'm sick of people thinking that the military is a dumping ground for kids with discipline issues. It's a real profession that requires real professionals who already know how to respect authority. The military can't change someone's personality that much. If they're already a little shit, they won't hack it.1 point

That's the cool thing about having kids, you get to play with the toys (ahem... with them) without being a nerd and buying them for yourself!1 point

Where's the data to prove that? Does this mean all highways are deathtraps due to their higher speed limits? Maybe we should go back to the 55 mph rule? I love this article, especially the last line. Nothing like trying to veil a revenue maker as a safety program. Remember kids, it's for your own safety. Just like gun control, the illegality of marijuana, and all those other bad bad things out there. Speeding is terrorism as well you know! http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/07/14/20100714arizona-speed-cameras-stop-thursday14-ON.html Hopefully Ohio isn't filled with more lemmings than AZ otherwise those cameras will be up for a long time.1 point

Someone call ESPN 8: The Ocho, and tell them their new rivalry expert is ready. Maxi says it best: This year was more fierce then most. I was trying to figure out why. If I want to know what a great t-bone steak looks like I can shove my head up a cow's ass; or I can take the butchers' word for it. Google would have told me ABOUT the rivalry (which I already know) but not why this years Browns fans were so bad.1 point

As long as "the people " are actually represented by the mob. Who protests in the streets of the U.S.? Fringe groups from both sides. Do we want the Million Moms or 9-12ers or black panthers or KKKers or green peacers or blah blah blah..... to mob the streets until Obama rolls over? Mubarak is a US puppet dictator, but the world Will be in great danger if an extremist government gains control over there. They WILL attack Israel and we WILL defend them at the cost of American lives. Not right, but real.1 point

Honestly we need more stern parents like this in our world. That way we wouldnt have so many fuck ups running around causing problems. I love the parents that put their kids in time out and all of that and as soon as they let the beast go he is back to doing what he did before. If I messed up when I was younger in public or not I got my ass beat back in line and if that didnt work my mom stepped up her game once we got home and out of the public eye. The kid messed up and the mom gave him a taste of what it would be like for him in county or in prision to try and scare him straight. He still got food, water, and trips to the bathroom, and was sent outside for physicial activity I really dont see much wrong with this situation.1 point

A couple of buddies and I did that in high school. We hopped into our convertibles and put on our helmets. The looks from the other people on the road -- priceless. Good times.1 point

I've never understood the sense of entitlement that comes with these type threads. A moto is a motor vehicle and is to be parked as such or in designated areas, end of discussion. As far as the ticket issued in a car spot, I can't imagine any judge that wouldn't have thrown that right out, but I'm not a judge...1 point

whatever you do, DO NOT park in the shaded areas near handicapped spaces. That is a real good way to get an indignant handicapped person parked on top of your bike even if you don't get a ticket. 1) those shaded areas are usually there to allow for wheel-chair vehicles to set down their lift next to the van. Handicapped people have a boner for nailing people on shit like this. 2) the vast majority of people I see with handicapped hang-tags are 900 years old and can barely see over the wheel - do you really want to trust them to maneuver a 5,000 lbs. car near your 500 lbs bike? unless every single last spot is taken, I usually try to park as far from buildings and other cars as possible (it's not like walking is hard). The only time I'll park on the sidewalk is at Iron Pony (even then, I usually park in the lot... no one cares about my EX500...), or if it's a gravel parking lot and I forgot the metal plate or block of wood I usually keep in my riding jacket. Even that pisses me off - it's the rider's job to be prepared for such things. when i was 16, some a-hole parked his F4i on the sidewalk at the concession stand I was working for my summer job. It was a gravel parking lot, and I wouldn't have cared, but he expected ME to look after his bike. He came over all pissed off that i was "letting" kids touch it. I told him he was lucky none of them burned themselves on the exhaust or pulled it over on top of themselves. the concession stand was 40 feet from a play ground - dude was an idiot. I shouldn't have "let" him park there to begin with. don't be that guy.1 point
