I don't have a Nikon to chime in but Canon locates theirs by the main battery with a little hidden slot that slides up. I have the manual for your camera in pdf but it's lame and doesn't show it. Good call on the memory card, I forgot about that. Some cheap cards can cause noise. And if it doesn't have a fast enough write speed.
