  2. Whew, I wish it was like that here......I was given 5 books, 300 to 500 pages each, and told that I would have a test (150 questions) in 60 days over the material to promote to Engineer. That was over the holidays....I passed, finished first with a 92.93%
  3. But, if you're not a supervisor, how is the bill keeping you from being able to file a grievance? How is it messing with your time off? I'm so freaking confused. The bill will effectively end any power that is held by the union. There will be no disciplinary policy, and like fireman 343 says, the management has the right to promote, hire fire etc, whoever they want. It does not matter whether they are the chiefs boy or the mayors son, or somebody who has busted their ass. We have never been allowed to strike, that is why we have binding arbitration, so that there is no work stoppage. When the employer offers a last offer, if it is not accepted, in a private union, it goes to a work stoppage or strike. In our case, it goes to a third neutral party who makes a decision, based on facts, for one side or the other. I have to tell you, that for the most part, the arbitrator will rule in favor of the employer. In 2010 there were 3200+ Collective Bargaining Agreements in the state of Ohio and 0 strikes. 2009 there were 2 strikes, 2008 there were 3 strikes. The current collective bargaining bill has been in effect since 1983 (27 years), and has done nothing but heal the management / labor issue. It took almost 6 years to pass that bill, so why the big rush to tear down working middle class Ohio?
  4. There are so many sides to this thing it is ridiculous. I have been to all of the readings of SB5, in the statehouse with the exception of the last one which we were locked out. I am a member of the IAFF local 910. Our last contract we negotiated minimal raises, and increased our contribution to insurance premiums. WE offered these to the city, because we were well aware of the financial crisis we were in. Our previous contract went to a fact finder and concilliator, and we lost, receiving 0%,0%,0% and a raise in our insurance contribution effectively resulting in a pay cut. I know that all unions are not like ours, and some will protect poor workers, but that is not the case with most public safety forces. When I was hired, we were evaluated every 6 months, and there were recommendations made for raises off of these evaluations. The city opted to take this out and just do across the board raises no matter what. So now it is turned around so that it looks like we are ALL the bad guys.. The reason I have been after this so much is the fact that collective bargaining and binding arbitration protects my safety at work. Ohio is a non OSHA state, and the labor laws that cover firefighting are very vague. NFPA standards state that there should be 17 firefighters to effectively battle a house fire.....we do it with 5 or six. I can guarantee the first thing the city will take from us is our minimum manning clause, reducing our on duty crews to 4, and putting us in more danger. The loss of binding arbitration, or the third and neutral party involved in the concilliation process will only cost the state and the cities and counties more money. Kasich is leading everyone to believe that the arbitrator comes from out of state, which is against the law and prohibited by SERB. The arbitrator has to be familiar with the situation to make an effective ruling. without binding arbitration, the contract negotiations that come to an impasse, will go to the local court where they will be decided on by a biased judge, and cost both the employer and the union large amounts of money. I could ramble about this all day long, but I am not going to get all redfaced and jump up and down. I just want anyone who takes the time to read this to understand that not all union people are out to get everything they can. I worked hard, studied hard, and love the job I do. I really do not want a rogue Governor pulling the rug out from under me and my family.
  5. Paninni's is good too. That is my favorite corner in Cleveland, Paninni's, The Clevelander, and Alesci's. Down the alley to the Jake and a stop at the Parrot, and Willburts, and I am usually well tuned for the first pitch.
  6. I am a die hard Indians fan....went to a Tribe/Pirates game a couple of years ago at PNC park, and the Pirates fans were chanting Cleveland Sucks. Really? You have not had a .500 season in 18 years and we suck?
  7. Primanti brothers is the only good thing in Pittsburgh. You should be happy I capitalized it. West Virginia and Pittsburgh are the reason that all the trees in Ohio lean to the east.....They both suck. Rivalry is the biggest reason.
  8. You are a feakin idiot. How hard is it to spell something when it is right in front of you? I don't even know why I look at CL. It just pisses me off. http://zanesville.craigslist.org/mcy/2194922744.html
  9. To my knowledge, Yeungling has not opened the market to Ohio yet. It is coming very soon, due to the fact that they have bought another brewery to keep up with the demand. That was the reason it was unavailable in Ohio. The furthest west you can get it right now is WV. Just across the border in Wheeling there are several beer docks that stock cases and kegs. If someone is selling it in Ohio, they are probably doing it illegally. I mentioned going and buying it and selling it in the bar I work at, and it would result in a $2500 fine and a license suspension from liquor control.
  10. I don't disagree there. Have you seen the salary he is paying his staff? the one lady will make $43k more a year than the same position under Strickland. Sooooo we cut the waste from all of these programs to fund the salaries of the people who got me elected, or know something that could ruin my career.
  11. The Dispatch had several good articles about his agenda prior to the election that sold me on the lesser of two evils. Kasich, and Yost together will try to privatize everything in the state.
  12. If they privatize liquor control, are we talking just the liquor stores? Because it is so much more than that. The stores generate a ton of cash, and even more now that they are charging $1 for every credit card transaction, every check transaction etc. If they deregulate the stores, it will be like Maryland where there are stores on every corner. I don't see how they can privatize the agents though. The prisons already have privatized the commissary, and other services. I think they should quit building them nice buildings, and put them in tent cities like AZ does.
  13. Its cool, I just have my panties in a bunch cause this jackhole has his eye on our pension because we have the money to pay the people back that served their communities.
  14. Amen.....Ask those boys that protect the Airport for Wackenhut what they make an hour to hang their ass out on the line. Then find out what the Feds pay the company.
  15. I remember a certain president not too long ago that tried to do the "Let's run this country like a business" philosophy. He previously ran the Texas Rangers franchise into the ground, then sold it with the same philosophy.
  16. I happen to have one of those city jobs that I EARNED by going to school, keeping myself in shape, passing civil service exams and placing first. I pay my 10% contribution into the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund, which I might remind you is tho ONLY fully funded pension in the state. I worked in the private sector in EMS for 10 years, and I understand how much it sucks to not have a pension set up for you, and working for pennies with a college degree. I did something about it rather than bitch about everyone that had it better than me.
  17. And how many people with decent paying jobs, and pensions that they have paid into for years is it going to affect? Yep, lets take the liquor control jobs and give them to wal mart greeters.
  18. Since he is having foot surgery, I would say no, he will not go to the NFL. Nobody will want someone rehabbing a foot injury. I am not so much of a Pryor basher, but more of a program basher right now. OSU recruited Pryor based on his performance in HS as a runner, not a passer. Yeah, he threw TD passes, but in High School, you can throw the long ball, and somebody can run under it and make you look good. OSU has tried to turn him into a pocket passer, which he is not. His mechanics are terrrible, especially in the 10 - 20 yard range....watch the films, the nose of the ball is down and his release is late, in turn making all of his short throws low. Give the guy one look for his go route, and then cut him loose and let his legs do the work. And for the second half shut down and playing not to lose....bullshit. Points on the board is like money in the bank. I woulda been as aggressive in the second half as I was in the first.
  19. Right now on the contrary is the best time to invest. The markets are on the rebound, and if you want the most for your money, now is the time.
  20. +1 for traditions, that is my home town. The restaurant over in Beallsville, when you come up 556 from the river is pretty good too. Cambridge....Park Circle Cafe (shameless plug) I work there on my days off slinging burgers. Signiature sandwich is the Fried Bologna, 1/2 lb circle burger, and the best wings in town.
  21. check out ardcore choppers in Indianapolis....they do a lot of XS stuff. Been throwing around the idea of getting one and doing the bobber thing.
  22. There used to be a tilted kilt in the Rio in Vegas. Went there years ago, they had happy hour from 3-6 $1 domestic pints and $2 import pints. We got all drunked up on cider. Do they still have the whiskey barrels full of pretzels that are all you can eat? It was a great place for a while, then once they hooked their customers, just like Hooters, the girls were either pregnant or had pimples all over their asses.
  23. So far, tickets for U2 @ Heinz Field in July
  24. I work at the Fire Dept. full time, on a day off two. My part time job is as a bartender/cook on my days off for usually 5 hours a day. I get to watch tv, drink beer whenever I want, eat when I want, so it is a pretty good gig.
