  1. eww, but funny, I think...
  2. I think what people are trying to say, is that if you roll with your road rash, it isn't that bad. If you slide with your road rash, a huge chunk will be missing... The higher the speed, and the rougher the surface, the worse it will be... So unless you have Kevlar skin, or incredible acrobatic talents, the risk of permanent disfigurement is always there when riding a motorcycle. Hands, elbows, knees and your butt, are road rash targets. Shoulders and sides of legs and arms are secondary targets. Tie a package of hamburger to the back of your motorcycle to drag it down the road, and go for a ride. That's your body without gear.
  3. They do! But first chance they get, the dogs eat them...
  4. I tried on one of the perforated Fieldsheer jackets. It's got some decent armor in it. I'd like to try that one. I've got dozens of leather jackets, I can always use another one. Did we mention all the bugs, gravel, road debris, rain, stuff we've been hit with? Hit in the feet, legs, arms, hands, face and body? A good jacket is your friend. Along with your helmet and boots.
  5. Spotted at Hooters East on Sunday. I hope they were girls, they were both wearing pink...

  10. RIP rider - Not fair to the passenger either. No speeding or crazy stuff with a passenger. The one on back is your responsibility. Ride for two.
  11. Just know that there is a sharp 90 degree turn in a two house town on 541, followed by another sharp 90 degree turn. Stay out of the ditch.
  12. yup, I had one pull out in downtown morning traffic. He even hesitated in front of me when he saw me. I had plenty of stopping power, but he was pushing it. He got flipped off for that. What the deal is... Taking off from a red light like I did is nice, but it throws off the timing of sleepy people in the morning. I got there long before he estimated anyone would be there. I was relatively slow approaching him, I knew what was going to happen long before he did. His stopping in front of me, caused full binders for me. I had enough to stop nearly touching his door if I had to. And actually started to. There has been gathering of bikes or cars late at night, in various places around C-bus, ever since bikes and cars were invented. It can be a lot of fun on a hot Summer night. You are right, good behavior is required, or it won't work. edit: one more thing... your bike can stop faster than the car behind you. Don't test that theory in heavy traffic.
  13. The bright side, you didn't see anyone doing a wheelie while texting at 90+ mph... But you're right, I sure am seeing a lot of sportbikes without helmets this year.
  14. yes, I R hacking yur cam right now... edit: actually, going to do some laundry now, give me an hour before hacking...
  15. and I was thinking "for breakfast?, sure, ok..." when I saw the thread title... oh hell yeah
  16. believe me, I can make mistakes...
  17. I calculate 10 feet of 3/4" steel rod at 15 pounds. I calculate 10 feet of 3/8" steel rod at 3.75 pounds. geez, nobody challenged me on flexure, bending, deflection, or other deformation. Which would happen long before steel would shear... It varies, I'd need some numbers and some time to do some calculations. Most stuff is designed to be 100% stronger than necessary.
  18. Looks like solid rod, not tubing. And the shear on a 1/4" steel rod or bolt (or sheet metal screw) is almost 3 tons. It should work ok.
  19. cool... wish I had seen that one.
  20. I don't know what to say... I got over all that and haven't had it happen since I was 16. Except for that night downtown in the Army on the local nightclub strip. But I got over that by the next morning and/or when I ran out of money, which was pretty much the same night. It's just fantasy and dreams, and everyone falls for it at least once in a lifetime. And don't blame anyone other than where the fantasy came from, it comes from ourselves. Everyone else is just giving it a little push.

ditto that edit: I've been buying the Corsair (matched pairs), it's worked well in all that I've used it for. Kingston premium if cost is not a factor.
