And you are two steps away from being bit or stabbed. In those vital seconds when the enemy is bearing down on you did you want a clip or a magazine? Primers will go off at under 500*f, I think most firearms will be fine at that temperature, some plastic may melt but I believe my AR would withstand being baked at 500 degrees for hours and still function, the ammunition would not. Depends on the bullet, is it XM193, SS109, M855?

I do not like the idea of having ammunition in a safe at all. But your situation is not the same as mine and you are looking for information and/or opinions so that you can make an educated decision for yourself. With that said, a safe serves multiple of purposes you must factor in the likelihood of a multitude of scenarios. I am most fearful of fire, if you feel a fire isn't as likely as needing a loaded firearm then a loaded firearm in the safe may be the better option for you. I am under the impression that if it gets warm enough in there for one round to "cook off" then the rest will follow in a chain reaction. But I am base this on a theory that I have not tested however. That theory is that as the temperature of the primer increases the stability of said primer will decrease. Does anyone know this to be accurate? If it is accurate, it seems to me that the first round cooking off would be enough to set the rest off resulting in damage inside the safe. Or if you have enough ammunition in the safe, and it is sealed tightly enough, it could possibly turn into a bomb of sorts if the rounds all cook-off simultaneously. Believing the possibility of that I would rather keep my firearms in the safe and the ammunition in a separate location.

The Nikon D200 would be a nice camera that shouldn't depreciate any further for quite a while. That is just a bit above your budget and would still leave you i need of a lens; which is more critical than the camera body when it comes to creation of good photographs. The 600 was too much for me when I was 16, it took me two months to put it in a corn field. I have little desire to be on a sport bike larger than a 600 in hope of saving my life. If you can't keep him from getting the damn thing at least try to get him to Mid-Ohio or some other track and get a track day under his belt and help him have a fighting chance. Maybe he will get hooked on the track crack and ditch the Busa for something more track friendly.

First of all, thank-you for reminding me of the SR-71, one of my favorites planes of all time! I don't think that the "interesting wording" is designed to separate this event from "A guy in the 60s" but now you have me reading up on the SR-71s. Seems there were actually plenty of ejections from the planes in the 60s and even 70s. Back to the wording; is he not technically using a vehicle, vis-à-vis the Balloon, to make the achievement? All of the bullshit aside free fall acceleration to the sound barrier! I got pulled away from the feed and was afraid I had missed it. Luckily well will never know if Felix is impervious to the jinx that keeps my ass away from fun stuff on the 9th.

I bought an Arctic Butterfly 788 recently to try cleaning the sensor on one of my cameras. Unfortunately whatever was on the sensor smeared, so if blowing it out with a little bit of air does not work I may recommend Midwest Photo Exchange on High Street. They have a gal there that has a little bit of experience cleaning sensors. I do not know what the cost is, but I do know that I need to get down there and get one of my sensors cleaned.

How do these things do off-roadish? I need something to get around the infields at race tracks for photos.

I'll be there, hopefully finding a decent balance between work and play.

Thank-you very much, everything from the 17th is up now. There were certainly a lot of bikes out there, I think close to 100 counting the instructor/control riders. Even with 30 bikes out at a time, there seem to be some good open gaps on the 2.4 mile track that were not being used.
