Not that I'm a fan of bicyclists on the roads or riding abreast, but that is legal in the ORC. And, they do it so that you're not tempted to squeeze by and clip one of them and instead pass using the oncoming lane...it's their rationale (not mine). When I ride the roads, I use the berm and stay there....but I'm not your normal passive-aggressive spandex goober. I'd just as soon stay on the bike path that's designed for bikes.

Glad no one was seriously injured (although I guess a broken leg could be considered). I got hit in Greer (which is on 514) by a deer sitting still at a crossroads. Felt something slam into me, knocked the bike over and when I looked over the bike I see a doe running off...damnest thing, but I didn't get hurt. Stupid, stupid animals. Rte. 62 BBQ is the shizzle, for sure...eat there about once a week. Used to be a lot cheaper, but it's still worth the dough. The Buckeye Deli at the end of 514 in Nashville is good too. Funky place, but good sammiches.

Will second the endorsement for Sloopy's. Was in Coshocton the other day and passed by (used to be a BBQ joint in there). When I saw it I thought why not and headed in. 50's motif and music aside, nice menu, fast service and the burger and fries were perfect....very good. The waitress was overly-friendly, which is better than being ignored, but overall a good lunch stop.

Yeah, the lining foam compresses during an accident, the outer shell bounces back out but the protection is compromised. A strong hit with your head inside is reason to retire it. I've got another Caberg as backup, so this one is done for. The worst damage is the engine guards, rear rack and pannier are all a total loss. Pictures don't do them justice. The Motech crash bars are caved in, broken welds, the rear-rack broke in two places and the pannier won't close up once opened the weather seam/lip is contorted. They did their job protecting the bike, tho. It'll be road-worthy with not much effort, and I'll start piecing the accessories back as I can. The scratches and scuffs are nothing, "adventure marks" I like to call them.

I definitely wanted to put my foot up someone's ass for it, but shit happens...could have been a deer or a coyote. I'm thankful I got to ride away without any harm. My shoulder is sore as fuck today, which I anticipated, but it's not seriously hurt. Posted some pics in the OP. Doesn't look so bad, for as hard as I hit, but the bulk of the crap was the engine guards and rear rack getting mangled - they took the brunt of the damage, which I suppose is better than the frame and engine.

It's up to the responding officer, in most cases. A statey wrote my friend, and I've heard they're notorious for doing so. Since I was on a state route, I thought better of tempting fate. I know people who have crashed and nothing was said.

I was carrying today, and it did cross my mind looking at the ragged ass dog that I swerved to avoid. I'd much rather shoot their owners...dogs can't help their instincts, but hilljacks can keep their mutts fenced or leashed.

Ya know, I'm not 100% sure...it was a bit before it splits north again heading W. towards 77....because I took the south way down Salt Fork Road to 541. I'd know it in a heartbeat if I see that area again. I probably should have marked it on the GPS, but I was still a little rattled and not thinking as clear as I should have.

Yeah, one of the road crew guys mentioned that first thing (I wasn't thinking 100%, so good on him). So he walked to the only house nearby and asked about the remaining dog wandering around (the one that grazed me ran off). The lady there said she had a dog but it was inside and didn't recognize it, said the area is just full of dogs running loose. I figured my chances of finding the owner, especially so far from home were slim to none. And, I'll be honest I figured anyone with those two fucked up nasty dogs wasn't going to cough up any money anyway. I didn't file a police report, I know better than that. I have a friend who wrecked avoiding a bunch of deer, he got cited for failure to control. Not about to add insult to injury.
