  1. I looked hard at them, but wasn't super impressed with the protection in the ankle. If I'm gonna go full mid-calf offroad style boot, better be some side protection as I figure crushing or twisting is likely what i'm trying to protect against in choosing that style. I ended up with the Fox Comp5 shorty...all the benefits of a full MX boot, but shorter and more comfortable...and the Fox is very easy to walk or articulate your foot in. Nice price, too.
  2. It's really difficult finding the curvy roads in Coshocton, there are sooooo many. More than any other region in the world. There are more roads than pubic hairs on an Albanian sailor, and the good ones are guarded by gnomes & trolls, punji-pits and deadly boulders that descend upon you if you make a wrong step. Sure, you could fire up google maps, choose the ones that look interesting and have it figured out in about 8 minutes, but it's more fun to pry it out of the locals who feel they have discovered magical highways far from the public domain, maintained by elves and motorcycle fairies. Just be sure never to share the secret, or the roads will dissolve like sugar in the rain.
  3. I've got Shinko 705's on now, but I have run all sorts of tires in the past on roads like these without any hassle. One of the guys coming is on a Tiger with ST tires and had no problem on similar roads last weekend, and another guy did this whole route on a Ninja 250 without issue. None of the roads are bad, and the two small road sections that are a little torn up are easy to do slow or careful if you wanna sort of "paddle" your way through them.
  4. Ultra Classic lists on HD's site for $20,999, as far as I can tell....and both the bikes you chose are bigger bikes (1800cc). Similar? Yeah, but arguably more bike for less with the Japanese bikes. You also neglected the C109RT...suzuki's top of the line cruiser which comes in at $15,999. Kind of proving my point, but I'm not really invested in the argument that much. Jap cruisers are good bikes, cost less, the end. Look used and the disparity in value becomes really marked. If you're buying to keep value in something, I see the argument for Harley.
  5. Whenever anyone uses the price comparison to Jap argument, they always use Harley's cheapest models and compare them to the Japanese's most expensive brand. Ever notice that? Sure you did, you just did it. Compare Harley's big cruisers with Star or Suzuki. Just for fun.
  6. 555 is a fun road, but I wouldn't even remotely compare it to the dragon or even say it's the best road in Ohio...there are quite a few that are more fun IMHO. It's twisty, but it's haphazard and the banking is erratic, a lot of blind turns, a couple off-cambers, it's not a road that's easy to blast down carefree....and I've come up over quite a few hills or rises to find a harvester or tractor eating up the whole road. A fun route if you're familiar with 555 is to take it south out of Zanesville, shoot east on 37 to 377, take that south into Chesterhill, down 555 to 676 and that over to Marietta. You skip two of the worst blind turns on 555 and trade it for 377 which has some cool vistas & fast sweepers.
  7. Nice can. Good place to test it out, too.

    Casual Ride

Dude, seriously, change those tires. That's dangerous as all get out.
  9. My back yard...I'll be there, more than likely. I like 48 year old chubby white guys singing the blues. "Man my Miata isn't worth what it was... And my lady's spa bill was way too high My daughter is addicted to her Iphone And my receding hairline makes me cry" I dig it.
  10. I just got back from my recon loop, rode the whole thing today...it's a great ride I hadn't been on a couple of the sections except to "fly" them in Google Earth....this will be an excellent time!!
  11. The one at Harbor Freight works like a champ...good excuse to buy one and have it around for the next time. I've done 6 or 7 chains with mine.
  12. My wife woke me up to tell me the first plane hit, I was on 3rd shift then. I stumbled out and saw the aftermath and as soon as I laid back down (thinking it was an accident) the 2nd hit and she came in crying telling me about it. Like everyone else it was a sobering, surreal and awful thing to witness. I had been on the WTC observation deck just a month prior on a business trip, we went over to see it, I still had my lift ticket from going in my bags. Sure made me think. I still get angry when I see those images, seems like a lot of people in this country want that whole event to be our fault.
  13. Hopefully just in time for the spectacular fall colors in East-Central Ohio, a grand tour of some of this area's most scenic and seldom-traveled back roads and highways! The date for this ride is Sunday, Oct. 3. This is a tour that is geared for Adventure bikes, but certainly not limited to them! The route I have prepared is 176 miles of every kind of road this area has to offer, from sweeping 2-digit state routes, to twisties, gentle paved farm roads and a lot of great gravel and dirt...from groomed and fast to mild jeep trails along some of the prettiest farmland in the state. Truly an Adventure ride! DETAILS! The ride will take off from my place around 10am, after a short meeting. I live just north of Granville Ohio (35 miles east of Columbus). From there, head east through Licking, Knox & Coshocton Counties. At the mid-way point, we'll stop for BBQ at The Depot in scenic Dresden Ohio. After lunch, some more great roads winding back here to the start...or you're free to peel off before if it's convenient. The ride is big-bike friendly, I've done every bit of it 2-up on my Vstrom with mild DS tires, and unless it rains furiously the night before the roads should be easily doable. There are a few roads which are rough, ruts and a bit of washouts and loose rocks...but not gnarly or technical at all, dry they're a breeze but if you're skeered of that kind of thing, be forewarned. There are a couple of small water crossings, seldom running in the late fall but ankle-deep if so (see the pics below). About as gnarly as the roads are look like this, and these sections are short probably only 1/20th of the ride: All bikes are welcome, all sizes shapes & colors...1 up, 2-up, side-cars and ape-hangers! (kidding about the monkey-bars, I'm not leading you if you sport those). If you are comfortable on the above roads, I encourage you to come! The ride should last approx. 7 hours including stops & lunch, I've done it in 6 taking my time. If you would like to come Saturday and camp-out, I have 44 acres of woods, a camping area, a fire-ring and plenty of firewood. I welcome you to join me, and I'll fire up the grill. The same goes for Sunday, if you'd like to camp after the ride, you are welcome to. I may ride Saturday too, but a shorter "warmup" loop if there's interest. There are also trails on the property if you have a light bike, but they're challenging for a big bike, you have mad skillz if you can get a Strom through them. So, here's the deal...if you're interested in coming please send me an email or PM and I will reply with directions & address. dada01@yahoo.com If you have any questions, ask 'em here and I'll be glad to answer them. Just a few teaser pics from some of the roads...
  14. Sounds like my own personal version of hell. Not only the hundred-thousand pirates putting around, but fucking New Jersey. I think I'd rather shove a hairbrush up my urethra.
  15. I love Beck for how worked up he gets the liberals. Does that count? I only agree with about 3/4 of his stance on things, I don't generally like his histrionics, but god damn do I love to see the blood pressure spike on the liberals when they speak about him.
  16. Yeah, I'm not buying it. It won't stop me from sodomizing these two teenagers if I see them, but it won't be for bike-stealing it'll just be a general thing...you understand.
  17. Radical Islam is the problem, you'll get no disagreement from me, but it's vastly greater in percentage than you're going to admit (even tho you know full fucking well it is). The widespread riots and deaths from the Mohammed/bomb cartoon should have clued anyone paying attention in to the fact that Muslim extremism is much more pervasive than Christian extremism is, and it takes much less to incite them to violence (Rushdie knows a thing or two about this). I remember the videos of Cairo & Lebanon streets erupting in dance after 911, maybe you don't but I was watching TV that day. Try to sneak some bibles into a Muslim country, while you're at it. In most of them you'll have them seized at the border and you'll likely go to prison or worse. Tolerance, it's what Muslim populations are all about. Oh wait, are the extremists the ones that make the general rules for Muslim society? Apparently so. Guess that makes them all extremists. Keep your head in the sand tho, it's probably cool and very comforting down there siding with the wrong people rather than that pesky authoritarian establishment that's done you wrong.
  18. Terrorism might also be defined using the implied threat of random violence if things don't go your way...such as riots and bombings in response to the burning of a book. Ya think? Now they're threatening violence if the Mosque is moved. How's those eggshells feeling under your feet? Don't say something wrong, the Muslims will threaten you....with their religion of peace, no doubt. Who's the terrorist?
  19. Perspective, not everyone has an abundance of it.
  20. No need to go KTM if you don't want to, they aren't the best choice for everyone. You could find a nice used Kawi KDX-200, they're awesome woods weapons, great for blasting around riding trails, incredibly simple and tough, and still a ton of aftermarket and parts support for them. I've seen VERY clean examples for $1400 or less. It'll go everywhere a KTM will go, has plenty of good usable power, and will be cheap to own and worth nearly what you paid if you move on from it. That'd clear up a lot of $$ for a street weapon.
  21. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if that were to go down, but it ain't gonna happen.
  22. A YZ isn't a maintenance hog, quite the opposite but it's a dirt bike and a 2-stroke at that. Every couple years you'll re-do the top end more than like, bearings, linkage, chains, etc. They demand more than a street bike, cause they're wound out and you're banging them around on shit. You won't be fixing it every time you ride or constantly doing stuff to it, but it'll need more work than a street bike. They're stupid easy to work on tho, so that's a plus.
