  1. Damn, damn, damn, I went out and rode Friday night and my bike quit running. That track is bumpy. I had a cracked tray in the sub frame (from a previous of track excursion) that my power commander sat on. It has been cracked for a long time; I have been to Blackhawk, Road America and Mid-Ohio with it in that condition. Well it disintegrated and allowed the power commander to get burned up on my exhaust. That was the end of my night. I never got up to speed because of traffic, so now I understand what flounder was eluding to. Part of it was my fault for not being able to get around traffic. I went there with my Mid-Ohio gearing not expecting to really run hard because I was going to run Mid-Ohio Sunday and was just too lazy to change them. Well I got caught behind a Ducati triple 9 that just kept pulling me on the straights and killing my momentum into 1 and 12. I never established any reference markers because I was following him. He was really a nice guy as I spoke to him just before leaving and his bike is beautiful.

I really like the atmosphere out there and it’s nice to be able to show up on Friday night, pay and go riding. I have been running without a steering damper but really need one if I am going to continue running out there.

Anyone have a power commander for a 2005 CBR600RR they want to sell?

  2. Really, are you suggesting that track day riding even in the advanced group isn’t going to be the appropriate place to try to improve lap times? I can see that, racing is where you should improve? I had in my mind that advanced sessions were mostly for expert racers and that you needed to be running at least 35s to be at the back of the pack.

Maybe I’ll go to Nelson’s Friday night practice to get that out of my system, then go to Mid-Ohio Saturday and Sunday. I’m not running 36s yet and I do love that track.

  3. I’m not committed to Nelson Saturday; I just haven’t been there since 2006 when I was still running a street bike in the beginning street rider’s school. I thought it might be fun to go there again now that I can run at a faster pace. I liked the track back then but what’s not to like about any track your first time on one. I wasn’t fast enough back then to worry about if the track wasn’t safe or not it was for sure safer than running that pace on the street. There is only five minutes drive time difference for me to go to Nelson or Mid-Ohio so it’s really a wash except for the $45 difference in the track time per day.

The second to last time I was at Mid-Ohio was in 2007 for the ROK day and the promoter practice the following day. I was running a 2001 GSXR750 with some take off racing slicks. I was told the second day from a guy who was following me with a lap timer that I was running 42s. I raced at Blackhawk last year (long story) and did the AMA amateur race at Mid-Ohio in September. I guess the racing year experience found me the last three seconds. Running 39s really wasn’t good enough because Bubba’s son Clint Shobert was running 32s in the novice class and another guy was running 35s. I am hoping 36s are a realistic goal for me but it might not be.

I’m sure you know all about the turnout for that race last year so there wasn’t much competition there. I placed in one of the races and almost placed in another except my bike vapor locked on me. Took the gas cap off, put it back on and it fired right back up. If I can work out the last few seconds I’m looking for I was thinking about running the race again this year.

  4. I raced last year but wasn’t necessarily good at it, usually mid pack unless you count formula fatty. I did a total of five track days over three years and got talked into going racing, when I don’t think I was ready. I don’t plan to race this year, just do track days. If I can find some speed at Mid-Ohio I might do the end of year thing that the AMA puts on at Mid-Ohio. Is there any coaching that goes on in the advanced group? My goal is to find three seconds this year at Mid-Ohio, I might not be able to do that but I’m not going to try racing again unless I can get that done. I ran PR5s last year and hope the PR3s will find me some time. For reference I was running back to back 39s there in September. (Transponder not lap timer 05 CBR600RR.)

  5. How long are the threads on the barrel and suppressor? Does the end of the barrel stop on a shoulder inside the adapter? Does the suppressor stop on a shoulder on the outside of the adapter? What is the O.D. of the suppressor where it comes in contact with the adapter? Why such a large tolerance in the bore diameter? What size round are you using?

  6. Thanks, I bought the tires from STG (The four tires for $400 deal) I bought a spare set of wheels last year and never mounted tires on them. I have access to a tire change machine at a shop I used to work at, it just sits in the corner and no one really uses it. I mount the first tire and find out there are no weights around. I mount the second tire and find out there are no internals in the valve stem.

I have a set of tires on the bike from last year that should be used up but were okay when I left Mid-Ohio last September. I was hoping to swap them out once they were done with the new set and just needed to know if someone will be there to finish the job I had started.

I was also thinking about going to Mid-Ohio Sunday if all goes well Saturday. I see that novice and intermediate are sold out. How do you know if you can ride in the advanced class? From what I can find out Nesba has a control rider follow you around in intermediate to evaluate you. I have heard that even if you are a novice racer you usually don't make it into advanced. I tried racing last year and didn't make enough points to get an expert license. (Old slow guy) I rode with STT two years ago in intermediate one day and the next day they had intermediate and advanced running together. I wasn't uncomfortable running with the advanced guys around me.

  7. I am thinking of going to Nelson Ledges Saturday the 25th for their track day. Does anyone here know if they will have tire support there? I know I could probably find out if I asked on their forum but I really don't want to register with another forum.

  8. Couple of questions for you. What type of stainless steel, 300 or 400 series? Prehardened or heat treated. How long are the parts? No tool marks? Would a reamed finish be good enough? Honed or jig ground? A 0.001 tolerance does not necessarily mean a no tool mark finish. I am also two hours away from Columbus but how quickly do you need the parts? You are well within a one day shipping zone with standard ground shipping. I don’t stock 300 series stainless and the 400 series I do stock requires heat treat so you would be looking at a few days delay to get anything.

  9. Good for you, then you should understand my attempt to help someone by trying to make him aware of potential problems dealing with a litigious competitor. You should also see the weak argument comparing potentially trying to sell someone else’s idea with downloading music for you own personal use. Both are fraught with pitfalls and don’t belong in the same argument. I even made the case to him that he could make as many of these as he wished for his own personal use. This scenario has ethical issues but should keep him out of legal problems.

I wish him well and hope he has come up with a superior product. This doesn’t mean he will be free to make money from it without first finding out if he is infringing on someone else’s idea and second protecting himself after he has done so. I love to see someone trying to make a dollar but would hope that they are doing it in a legal and ethical way.

  10. That was chilled out; I’m not upset about it at all just trying to make him aware of a potential problem. Smart carry has gone after several people for doing this exact same thing.

I’m sure with your vast experience pertaining to patent law you are able to offer him some guidance. There is a very big difference between what you have heard is true and what actually is.

Let’s see if I understand what you’re trying to say here. I can download music from anyone and then offer it for sale?

  11. You might want to have this thread pulled. While I think its cool your mother has the talent to do this, good for her and a bonus for you. You can copy other holsters for your own personal use all you want, however you can’t resell them.

Smart carry and Thunder wear are both patented. Do a little research about the trouble the two of them have had between each other. You might not want to get involved in it yourself. Stealing someone else’s ideas for profit is not cool.

  12. Congratulations!

Contribute to which holster fund? The first one you buy or the next couple you buy? I hope you are lucky and find the one that works best for you the first time but this rarely happens.

What do you plan to carry?

  13. What part of asked and answered didn’t you understand? You said McCain had more problems with this matter than Obama did which is absolutely not true. In McCain’s case under no circumstance given who his birth parents are could he not have been a citizen. In Obama’s case this is not true. Simple to understand, Obama’s father was not a U.S. citizen and his mother was not working for the government on assignment out of the country at the time. If he was not born in the U.S. he would not have been a citizen who would qualify to be president. This was a perfectly reasonable question to have been raised. Before you want to go back on about what more proof do you need READ asked and answered again.

  14. The question has been asked and answered. Apparently sufficient enough that the Supreme Court has declined to hear the case. Until someone can come up with standing for the court to address this issue it is a non starter.

Lets not get it twisted enough to think that the question about the citizenship of the two former candidates is equal. McCain was not born in the U.S. but he was born to two U.S. citizens who happened to be out of the country at their country’s request, end of question, no debate, he is a citizen. Obama was not born to two U.S. citizens, and possibly not in the country. McCain gets a pass no matter where he is born because of his circumstances; Obama can be questioned because under certain circumstances he has the possibility to not be a citizen. These are two totally different circumstances that are not on equal footing.

  15. My intension was not for this to be about liberal/ conservative, Army/Marines but I guess I was sucked into it. There was no game going on here and if you didn’t understand where I was going with this here is my best attempt to address what and why I have stated some of the things that I have. I never stated anything negative about the Army that should have turned this into an Army/ Marine debate, just that I found their makeup to be different, not necessarily inferior. Let’s not get our panties in a twist with the whole liberal/ conservative shit no one assaulted you, quit trolling for a reaction and you won’t get one. You should be in this discussion as you have prior military experience but don’t make it out to be something its not.

The military ET all is not a snapshot of our society as a whole. Now let me back that up with what I know instead of what I wish it to be. I do not know the makeup or the dynamics of how things are today so I can only speak from my experience from many, many years ago. When I was active there were WMs that out ranked me but none were ever my direct superior, I would doubt that is the case today for better or worse times change. The overall makeup was very conservative, it could be different now but I can tell you this, RVTPilot you would have definitely been in the minority when I was active. Sorry you took offense to the whole 90%/10% thing but “you’ve always got your 10%” was a common mantra when I was in, too bad you didn’t get my meaning.

This to me is about our president respecting our military, not holding it in contempt. It’s about our president understanding the value of our military to this country. Maybe it’s self-serving to expect these things from the president but it sure helps moral and our respect towards the man. However, these things are never required for our respect of the office he holds, which always demands respect.

    Fuck the U.N.

  16. I distinctly remember thinking that I was glad to not be serving under Clinton and I’m sure I wasn’t let down by the way I expected you guys to have received him. It’s a no brainer how that was going to happen. This will pass and we will have a president that we can be proud of again, I have lived long enough to have seen it come and go. We have to suffer through this one; it won’t always be this bad.

Yes, everyone has a different opinion that’s why I said 90% would share this sentiment. You always have your 10% that are shitbirds.

For others (Non Marines) who are reading this I am not calling you shitbirds for not agreeing with this sentiment, I do understand that we are a divided nation by about 50% to 50% and not half of us are shitbirds because of our political beliefs. Most of us are assholes for entirely different reasons. Everyone is an asshole to some one, crack heads think the religious are and the religious think crack heads are, etc, etc.

My time spent around the Army was limited to being around them while I was training for my MOS because my training was on an Army base. Their overall outlook is different from the Marines and their ratio of conservatives is surely different. (Quit feeding the Army usurper troll in the thread, even though I think his new halo lights are kick ass)

  17. You should learn in the class that Ohio does not issue a CCW license. This is not really important and I’m not trying to bust any balls here as CCW is commonly used for describing your license. Ohio actually issues a CCH. (Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun) This is kind of like people who substitute clip for magazine; they are not the same thing.

Congratulations on taking the class. Welcome yourself into a whole new type of addiction.

  18. Don’t want to make any enemies here but I will state what has been my personal experience. A modern 1000 can outrun a busa and a 12 on top end. I have owned both a busa and a 12; have never owned a 1000 but ride with people who do. I have been pulled on by 1000’s with both bikes. Before you say it’s the rider which in most circumstances is a legitimate mitigating factor we switched riders with the same results. For me that’s the end of that myth which seems to be perpetuated by busa riders. It may have been true at some point in history but has not been for several years.

Street riding is very restrictive in how it will allow a modern sport bike to utilize their abilities. I run at the top end of the intermediate group for track days, however when street riding I can stay with expert racers. These same people can run away from me on the track like I don’t even exist. There are so many things that a modern sport bike can do that you just can’t come close to pushing what they are capable of on the street.

I have been at Mid-Ohio on both a busa and a 600. I am positive that I can outrun myself with the 600 over a busa. That is as close as you can get to having the same abilities with both riders.
