Maybe my experience with National Trails isn't normal. I thought if you bring a faster bike (anything not a cruiser) then you are considered fast enough that the tech shed looks at your gear before they give you a #. I'm not really into drag racing though, so I'm not really drawing off of much experience here.

I work at state farm in total loss claims. If you regularly read the things that I've read you might re-think it. Skin grafts, facial reconstruction, physical therapy, etc. will be things you take with you for the rest of your life. Drink water regularly and don't be afraid to sweat a bit. Yeah, I'll sneer a bit when people don't take gear seriously. It's mostly on the inside and I'll still have a good time with you, but to me gear is not optional. $.02
