I understand that your department doesn't get the money directly, however the revenue flow doesn't get past the local city government who puts pressure directly on the PD to keep the flow coming. Either way, the result is the same: Government (or a governmental entity vis a vis the PD) extracting extra funding from the populace behind the guise of "public safety".

Bingo. Speeding is illegal too, but I'm sure you've done it. You have to fix the real problem, and that is that police departments control their own revenue stream. Go back to ticket revenue going to the state, not the municipality and PD's having a standard budget like the fire department and you'll see this issue go away. While we're on the subject, eliminating the batshit crazy asset forfeiture laws wouldn't be a bad thing either. The amount of militarization in American police forces is incredible, and they spend like the DoD to boot.

I'm on a Sunday Chiller D league team and we're starting to lose a bunch of guys for next session that starts in about a month. It's been pretty common to take summers off, however if we don't put a team on the ice there's no guarantee that we can get into fall session (teams that are already in the league have an automatic pass to next session) I've played a session with this team, and we do pretty well together, even made the playoffs. At this point we'll take any position, including goalie. If you're interested hit me with a PM and I'll hook you up with the captain. For those that are new to the Columbus Chiller leagues, budget about $200 for the entire session (13 games) and add $60 if you want a custom jersey.
