  1. Good arguments! I agree Brandon should be penalized in some way. I just do not agree it should be with manslaughter. I daresay few if any of us have never excessively accelerated next to another car at a traffic light at one point in our lives. Call it a race if you will. Now picture yourself at a traffic light. The guy next to you revs his motors and pulls away from the traffic light. You decide to have a little fun, though not interested in a full blown drag race, and accelerate as well. The other guy swerves for whatever reason - hits another car - and kills someone. Now you may have never even exceeded the speed limit but because you were beside the guy and accelerating "excessively" it could be argued you were drag racing. When you had no intentions of exceeding the speed limit and thus woudl have had full control of YOUR vehicle. You may even be quite a ways behind the other driver when the accident happens. Should you be charged with manslaughter for what started out and would have ended as a quick spurt for fun? Circumstances need to be examined closely on ALL sides.
  2. Should have either a Lotus Elise or Pontiac Solstice by year end. Vastly different cars. Each has its advantages. Will ultimately depend on my wife - LOL She's not into cars or bikes. Though she did like my 1991 Mr2 Turbo - sunk a small fortune into it - put out between 325-375 rwhp depending on the boost and whether it was running right or not.
  3. I'm assuming everyone is riding???? Can't tell for sure by the messages.
  4. No worries. I'm not judging anyone. Like I said personally I can get tipsy with one beer and I weigh 185. My tolerance level is next to none. I have a nephew that can drink vodkas all night and it seems to have little effect. You as an individual are suspect when making your own decisions as to how much is enough. That's why you should not drink and travel alone.
  5. Seriously? I can't fathom drinking that much of any liquid.
  6. I don't think there has ever been a "drunk" driver that didn't think he was sober enough to drive. Otherwise why would they drive? Honestly... the imbibing of alcohol from the first drop begins to impair your ability to react. This has been proven time and again. True, weight has some bearing as does tolerance etc. The point being, the very act of drinking ,from the point go, impairs your ability to even decide if you've had your limit. Personally I'm tipsy after 1 beer and I weigh 185 lbs.
  7. Too cool! I can never seem to keep track of Mid-Ohio events.. until it is too late.
  8. All depends on the circumstances. We are not saying the officer was not or could not have been negligent.
  9. "Shit happens"? This wasn't shit. This started from an intentional robbery. I agree people need to take responsibility in their lives. All too often they do not in todays society. Alcoholics blame "genetics". Obese people blame "genetics". Both now claiming their problems are the result of a disease and no fault of their own. That is pure crap. So while I agree with you in general not specifically in this case. The circumstances needs to be examined closely. For example, If an officer is killed attempting to apprehend a speeder say doing 70 in a 55 then who is to blame? Now change the scenario to that same speeder doing 70 in a 35- who then? Was the speeder an armed felon? You can not make blanket statements .. Just my opinion.
  10. I have to agree. If a person is committing a felony and an officer is hurt while attempting to apprehend that felon, regardless of how he was hurt the suspect should be at fault. Otherwise it encourages the felon to behave in any manner necessary to elude police etc. Especially in the case of an armed robbery. If this guy was armed, escaped and killed someone else at a later date you can bet the same individuals seeking to blame the officers for negligence in attempting to apprehend him would be crying the blues if they made "less" of an attempt.
  11. yeah... had to be.. CBR's are programmed via the ECU to prevent such stupidity. In fact, they have a failsafe to detect and prevent squids from operating them. Or so my owners manual says -
  12. Wow! Hope everything turns out ok.
  13. 1) Attack Japan 2) Confiscate all the Jet Ski's, waverunners etc 3) Work an agreement out with Somalian pirates for re-fueling 4) ATTACK Hmmm... ok that plan needs a little work
  14. China is dependent on us economically. Attacking us would serve no purpose unless they intended to go all the way. Unlike other communist countries China is far more capitalistic in its approach. I just don't see an attack, in the sense of imminent war etc. happening. However, I can see occasional confrontations simply as a function of flexing political and military egos, out of military boredom and stupidity if nothing else.
  15. I think with all the economic issues, backlash from TARP, bailouts etc. He is not ready to take on the NRA. Hopefully now I can get some ammo at a decent price.
  16. Hey are there paddock passes so we can fraternize with the racers? Sounds like fun - put me down tentatively. Watching not racing.
  17. Wasn't me. My wife hasn't let me out enough to worry about having an accident. Hopefully she won't hear about this one. Everyone in the neighborhood goes out of their way to tell her when there is a bike accident. Then I have to hear the "When are you selling your bike?" all over again. Though it is depressing everytime I hear about one.
  18. I'm out but I'm taking the day off to ride tomorrow.
  19. yea- exactly where is this route. I'd like to ride it at least once before watching everyone's taillights leave in the distance in a group ride.
