  1. Thanks all for the replies - we found an '01 GS for her last Fri and it's signed, sealed and delivered. She is pumped and today we are going to get started with her first day of riding! I just wish I could remember to tell her everything she needs to know - lol. She is already signed up for the state MSF course but a little head start won't hurt. I'll see how much of my 41 years of riding can be translated. Prob not much. Thanks everyone! John
  2. Well I think it's WAY overdue. A slight mod to your exhaust? Fine. But to have it so loud as to harm hearing or wake people up is illegal. I live in the Portage Lakes and the damn HD's that run around here is criminal and I do wish for one time the cops would do something about it. No matter if it's an old truck, a bike or a tuner car. Just do it.
  3. Bad - Thanks for the links, the first and last are under consideration. In the process of checking them out. John
  4. I'm looking for a cheap starter bike for my youngest. A GS500, Ninja500 - something around 450 to 500 cc. She only has $1000 but I could kick in some if the bike is a good runner. Of course a few dents/dings/scratches would be fine and around 400 lbs. I'm in the Akron area but willing to travel a bit for the right one. Thanks, John
  5. Wow, some common sense from an ins co.
  6. Go the the US DOT site to look up the code for the date of manufacturer. Prob an old tire when you bought it.
  7. My 23 yo daughter is wanting to learn too. She's signed up for the MSF but it's not till the end of Aug. I'm looking for a GS500 for her now.
  8. Why even want to use your own when there's a good chance of it being dropped? Have fun at the class!
  9. If it's that stretched out pay close attention to the sprockets too - 'specially the rear one.
  10. Thanks for the info. A new phone and comm sys is in the works for me.

    Soft or Hard

Hard integrated bags if you like them waterproof and secure. Soft ones to tend to look best on sport bikes though.
  12. The British standard just may be the best of all.
  13. It's nice to have hanging in the shop for "shop talk".
  14. The synthetic Rotella is the only oil I've used on my FJR since the 1000 mark. Now has 42000 and all is fine.
  15. I have a Protege, one of my daughters has an '07 3 and my girlfriend just bought a '10 3. So I have experience with 3 generations of these. These have all been GREAT cars. I'm 6'2" and fit all of em just fine. I can see if you're very overweight they might be tight. All have VERY reliable and drive much, much better than a Civic. The Corolla's don't even compare in driving feel and fun. Go drive one. That alone will convince you. My girlfriend just checked her mileage and it was 32 MPG in mixed driving, I only manage 26 in my Protege - a bit more throttle I guess. All have proved to be very reliable too. Cheap to operate.
  16. No doubt there is some bad stuff in this bill, but it had to be done. The doctors and insurance companies fought this HARD! For many years. And guess what? They used your money to fight it. Millions and millions. Over the years 7 presidents tried to get this passed and none could beat the docs and ins. co's. Finally it happened. Too bad the republicans didn't have the balls to co-operate and have some input on this bill.
  17. Welcome - my girlfriend lives right near 91 & Graham so I'm up your way a lot. This is a good place to arrange rides so keep checking in. John
  18. Oh ya, it was a good day. Like I said, I'll get my buddy Jim and head down to the river. Good meeting you, let me know that month you're home for summer. John
  19. As mentioned in an earlier post, these benefits are OPTIONAL !! If you don't want to abide, don't ask for the help. "They" can change the rules and do often. This would save the state a TON of money.
  20. have to forget about that. I had a plumbing problem at home and I'll be staying at home in the portage lakes.

How about we meet at the BP gas station at 77 & Arlington. Get off at Arlington, go right and immediately on the left is the BP station. 10:45 OK?

If you get on RT 8 at Graham, it's a 10 min trip. We'll head south from there.

Call me in the morn, 330-714-2330

  21. Hey, I'm still in for tomorrow, but I'll be at home tonight. Ran into some plumbing problems that have to be fixed tonight. I live in the Portage Lakes, so we could meet somewhere around the Arlington exit off 77. Give me a shout out.
  22. I'd give it a month or so before ordering a different seat. Give the stocker a good chance to break in to your own butt, then judge. I'll be you'll find it's just fine, then you can spend those bucks on something else, like more gas!
  23. I've been to court here in Akron, and seeing a ton of people that don't have ins., they get breaks if they can show they now have it. Explain to the judge, don't lie to him/her, and I'll bet you get a break. You won't get off scott free, but by being honest you'll look good in the eyes of the court. John
