Overall the car turned out very tastefully done except for the air brushed graphics. I think that it would have been better if they had gone with the origional numbers and graphics. Instead they had some guy come in and air brush everything to look ragid and wind blown and it just didn't work for me. As for the rest of the car...18F / 19R Budnik billit wheels with monster rubber, mean stance, nice sound, clean interior, Like I said...put the origional graphics on the car and it's perfect. Andy

Hands down her choice is the M3...but she's willing to look at the other cars becuase she realizes that this car will also be my toy. If it were me buying a toy for Me and not worrying about the need to retain my sedan for what I need it for...there would already be a 996 sitting in the garage.
-
I thought the show was going to be pretty cool...and they did have some really nice cars on hand...BUT the format was horrible and I found myself switching back over to Overhaulin' and Rides as I couldn't take any more musical performances when all I wanted to see was the cars.
-
Wow...thanks for all the input guys. I'm going to Dayton to look at an M3 on Friday..I'd really like to get rid of the 325 coupe first but this deal could be too good to pass up. As for he other details. Yes the wife knows how to drive a Rear drive car...she currently drives the 325 daily so an M3 wouldn't really be different...plus she's been to a BMW CCA driving school so she knows her way around the car pretty well. I'm clearly aware of the problems with the engine problems on the 01-03 M3's...I'm also clearly aware that BMW recalled the engined and all of the '01-03 cars now carry a 7 year 100k mile powertrain warranty because of the recall. I'd love to let her keep the 325 coupe and get a toy for myself...BUT I need to have something for an every day driver that I can put all of my detailing equipment in to haul around...as it is the Audi gets pretty crammed full of stuff, a smaller car for me is out of the question. I really like my Audi and becuase it suits its purpose I plan on driving it into the ground before getting rid of it.

Ok...so I'll ask this question in a neutral forum as if you ask it in the BMW forums the only answer you get is M3 and if you ask it in the Corvette forums all you get is Z06, ect. Situation...I'm finally nearly out of debt and ready to move onto a new(er) car. Budget is 35-45K. It will be replacing the 325ci that is currently my wife's daily driver...so keep in mind that whatever I go with will be daily driven by my wife. (I put too many miles on a car every day). So...Which one and why. Obviously if its the 911 it will be a 2001 model...if it's an M3 it will probably be a 02-03 model and probably the same for the Z06. My heart is with the Porsche and at least in my mind it's the most prestigeous one of the group..but my wife Hates the car (she'd drive one though if I truely chose it). The M3 is the most refined and still a blast to drive. The Vette is hands down the best performer but I've fallen in love with my Audi and the BMW quality and I'm not sure if I'd start to look past the pure performance of the vette after long and wish I had gone with another choice. Soo....I'm interested to see what car people would pick and why. Whatever I get will be modded slightly (wheels, suspension, intake and exhaust)...but remember the wife will drive it everyday...it's been hard enough to train her to drive with 19's and suspension on the BMW already...so stuff like cams in the Z06 would be out of the question. Acura TL is Front Drive and while it has great power many of the recent tests vs less capable cars the Acura has been severly put down becuase it's a front drive platform. Personally I'll throw out my personal pick in this category being new and for the money...Mercedes C55 AMG. Brand new with lots of bells and whistles it's low 50k range, 360 hp NA V8, Rear wheel drive, all of the class that you won't get with the CTS-V (flame suit on!!!). Biggest downside to the 'Benz is you cannot get a manual transmission. Crown over in Dublin has a georgous black one sitting in the showroom right now stickered at just over 52K. If you can get past wanting a brand new car buying something a year or two old with low miles on the clock opens up MANY MORE DOORS. The BMW M5 and E55 AMG suddenly become options, both sound more like the perfect fit for what you're looking for if you can just get past that whole buying a new car thing. Just my .02 though.

Hey guys, 2004 was great to me and I got to me a few new members on this board and I'm never amazed how great the people from columbus racing really are in person. Please check my site periodically for updates and specials @ www.andyzainodetail.com A couple of new announcements for 2005. Due to increasing product costs, business costs and gasoline costs my prices have increased slightly for this year. I think that you'll still find them extremely competative esp. for the quality of work that I do and the products that are used. I have also changed up my offerings slightly this year. I cut out the detail that used Zaino Z5 as a filler as opposed to light or heavy polishing with a buffer. I was never really happy with the filling ability of the Z5 and in all honesty I don't want to be filling in swirls when they can be eliminated with just a little more effort...it wasn't a good representation of my work as after a few washes the the swirls would start to re-appear. As with in the Past I always throw in a little something extra in each deatil for Columbus Racing members as this forum gives me a great source of free Advertising. I'm also open to a group buy sort of pricing for Columbus racing members as well. 15% discount for 3 guaranteed appointments, 20% discount for 5 or more guaranteed appointments. **Guaranteed appointments will require a $20 deposit up front** Thanks again to all of the Columbus Racing members for their support. To anyone thinking about this car. I can attest to how well kept this car is...after all I'm the one who does the detailing on it. The best part about cleaning John's car is that the interior is soo well kept that there's no need to really clean anything simply vaccum and apply protectant (303 aerospace protectant if anyone cares) and move on. As for the exterior On 10/24 the entire exterior was machine polished to remove light spiderwebbing and provide a deep rich gloss. Then the car was sealed with Zaino Z-2 and topped with a product called Ultimat Paint Protection. The wheels were sealed with Klass AIO. I can attest that as of 2 months ago this car was cleaner and had better paint then a brand new Cobra sitting on the showroom floor. Andy

I'm no expert but does GM use yellow then Red on their tachometers. Am I the only one here thinking that when he states that the color Yellow will have more velocity that he's indicating that the car will have an even higher red-line and is talking nothing about color? I'm also inclined to think that when he states you'll have to "Think Hard" on which interior to get that it's not refering to interior options but rather just backing up his statement about not getting a sunburn in the car...meaning it's just another way of telling you that it's a hard top car only? I've got the california duster and you can detatch the bonnet from the handle and throw it in the washer. I treat it just like all of the Microfiber towels that I use. Wash with Woolite or generic woolite, never use powder detergent, Let the washer fill up then shut off and allow the duster to soak for 30-60 minutes then continue with the wash cycle. Don't use any fabric softeners or bleach and do not machine dry, let them hang dry. The dusters aren't quite as delicate as Microfiber but I learned the hard way not to dry microfiber as I ruined 5 nearly new towels by putting them in the dryer. To tell you the truth...if it were me I'd throw away the dusters all together and purchase some good Microfiber towels and a product called Spray ane Wipe from Poorboys...it might take a couple more minutes than using the duster but it's 10 times safer. My personal pick for great microfiber at a reasonable price the elite towel from www.autofiber.com...and the Spray and Wipe can be found at www.poorboysworld.com

ODB...depends on a couple of variables with the overspray (how bad and how long it's been there as well as if the paint had any product on it prior to the overspray). Sometimes clay will take overspray right off of a well kept vehicle...othertimes overspray requires wetsanding to remove. I'd be more than willing to at least check it out to let you know if I can get it off or not. Zietgeist: you have PM

Orion. Generally what I did to the Cobra would be about $150...BUT I've been offering CR members substancial (at Least I feel they're substancial) discounts as the season winds down and everyone is getting ready to either put things away for the winter or they need added protection for the winter months. Give me a ring if you'd like a quote. 614-747-0002 Mark - Yes and NO...it all depends on the weather and when my home is going to be completed. Seeing as though I'm mostly mobile when the temperatures get below about 45 it gets pretty rough when you're outside washing a car all day but I went almost until December before giving up last year. I hope to have my house completed in November at which time I'll have heat and lighting setup in the garage where i can detail cars in the garage and work the remainder of the winer until I can go mobile in the spring again. Another note (I'll be leaving this on my voice mail) I will be gone from Nov 1 - Nov 15 for my wedding / Honeymoon and will obviously not be available for work around that timeframe...but I'll be broke and looking for additional work when I get back.

EEK...somehow Sunday Morning's 911 Cab. shoed up in there as well but it's fixed now...good thing I'm more of a database guy than a web developer huh? Thanks for the kind words John.

Tommy, Thanks for the compliments. I still would like to setup some sort of official relationship with Passen but as things got crazy busy this summer I never got around to it. My relationships with Auto Assets, Porsche club and BMW Club have been huge for me this summer and kept me busier than I could have ever expected and even wanted in many cases but I've never been one to turn down work...it seems like I'm doing something right as almost every piece of business has resulted in multiple referrals. If anyone would like they can check out my rinky-dink site at www.andyzainodetail.com It's kinda cheesy but something that I put together in a hurry to get a web presence. Andy

John, Feel free to send me an e-mail @ kutscha@nationwide.com and I'll send you all of the pictures that I ended up getting of the car. I was running out of time with light as the sun was going down so several of them were a little dark but the car turned out beautifully. One more thought as well since I dindn't get to speak with you after the detail. Please clean your car duster...I think that some of the miro-maring could have been inflicted from a dirty car duster. Thanks again for the business! Andy

I detailed John's cobra the other day and man what a beautiful car and a great guy...maybe the most hospitable client that I've had all year. Anyhow onto the car and the processes: Wash with Zaino Z7 Clay with Clay Magic Blue Wash with Z7 Spot polished with Poorboys SSR2 and polishing pad Machine polish with Poorboys Super Swirl Remover 1 on a polishing pad Zaino Z2 by hand 4* Ultimate Paint Protection by hand Klasse AIO on the wheels and exhaust 303 Aerospace protectant on interior And onto the results: http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_002.jpg http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_0071.jpg http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_017.jpg http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_026.jpg http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_018.jpg http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/8517Picture_027.jpg

I'm gonna bump this one up and add in a little question of my own. I'm getting married Nov 5...will I still be able to file single since we both were for most of the year...or once your married your married and that's it... My .02 is that everyone informs me that once married we'll have to pay more in taxes with the combined income of my fiance and myself???...but I'm still somewhat clueless as to why as well.

The M3 recall was just on '01 early production cars. The problem was corrected and should only be an issue on a certain production date cars. There is currently a recal on X5's of some sort...something wrong with the DME that could cause the car to just die randomly when driving down the road!!! Andy

I religiously used Shell until Recently. I swear that yes I do seem to get better mileage out of the new formuals but my car never seems to run as good. Do I get detonation???...NO I can't explain it but the car just doesnt run as well. Then the final straw was that my fiance and I both got a bad tank of Gas from a shell station recently which caused huge headaches for both of us. Now...with the above said I used to work for a GM dealership and we had all sorts of problems with clogged injectors...the only comon factor in any of these situations was BP gas. We started to recommend that people not use BP gas and got in a heap of trouble because somehow it got back to BP. From there on out the only thing that we could do is suggest that people that were having clogged injector problems use a different gas than they were currently using. Guess that leaves me with Sunoco...been running it for the last couple of weeks and both cars seem to be running top notch. I was disappointed to switch from Shell as I've used their gas forever but with the new formulations and 2 tanks of bad gas that company quickly lost my business.

Not to argue with you MotoMat but as an avid Motorcyclest I have to tell you your logic is completely off. government regulations require a bike to be limited to 186mph. Regardless the only bikes that could possibly reach this value are the Hayabusa and ZX-12R and per many tests inthe motorcycle world it's commonly known that it's a rare occurance for any one of these bikes to actually reach this value. The Hayabusa and ZX-12 have a huge aerodymanic advantage over the other more dedicated sport bikes like all of the current crop of Leiter bikes. Yes they are getting better but are severly handycapped compared to the other bikes. Now with that said...it was possible...but he would have big money into mods on that bike to really achieve that value in the way of turbo's and what not and to this point I donot know of a turbo kit for the new CBR. To put this into perspective Lee Sheirts is one of the biggest motor builders for GSXR 1000's. He built a 1140cc GSXR 1000 that was making around 240hp that currently owns the land speed record for a 1000 cc bike at 200.1mph. Andy -

...and as mentioned earlier this one still doesn't take the cake compared to Big Red. Big Red was the '69 camaro built for the silver state open road race. The guy won the race one year then the next morning decided that he was going to run the course backwards on his trip back....I think the ticket he got was 220+..they published a copy of it in Hot Rod magazine. -

That's either one heavily modified 1000RR (turbo and nitrous maybe?) or one very poor calculation on the part of the police. Seeing as though that bike will go about 175 stock and bikes loose areodynamic advantages at speeds like that he'd have to be making nearly 300hp (double the stock amount) to get to close to 200mph. I'd be crying foul if I were the guy because it's not likely the bike could really go that fast...then agin when your in his situation I doubt that you have alot of room to complain. -
Looks like Hoop-D has you pretty well covered for resources but I'll throw another one out there. Auto Assets up in Powell has a pretty decent showroom and while they donot specialize in Subaru they deal with many of the big aftermarket manufacturers. There showroom is always worth a look becuase there's always a race car of some sort inside to drool on. (porsche 911 GT3-R from the grand am series currently). Andy
