  1. Eli is out of country...car is still here as am I. His son called me to get things sorted. Haven't forgotten about you, you're the only one left on the list right now waiting for a nice day.
  2. Thanks for the kind words Eli
  3. I've been meaning to pick up some 22PLE and do some experimenting with it. I've been a pretty avid opti-coat user since it was released. The original coating from August 2011 is still going on my Audi. It doesn't bead as tightly as it used to but shows properties of not beind dead either. BUT as doc says opti-coat is not cheap, it's finiky to work with, you have to go to great lengths to make sure the car is prepped correctly in order for it to bond as it should AND I have had issues in humid situations where it doesn't like to setup particularly well. Back on topic, Doc the car looks great, Addison: VERY nice work as always! Andy
  4. http://www.rennlist.com ^ best porsche resource on the net. Everything you need to know there
  5. Podcasts app. - All of my favorie DJ's release free, weekly, hour long podcasts that I listen to almost all of the time. Still completely pisses me off that podcasts app isn't controlled by the phone's EQ and doesn't have one of it's own but I use the heck out of it anyhow Also: weather channel, pandora, my fitness pal that's about it on a "regular" basis. guess I under utilize my phone
  6. Yup, The Spa / Salon is his wife's business. We just got back from a Vegas trip with them....attempting to recover from the craziness nearly a week later!!!
  7. He said no corvette wheels, said not forged $$$ wheels...at least I provided a suggestion that fit the request. If it were me it'd be really agressive offset CCW Classics...or corvette wheels so I tried to get creative.
  8. I've been following this too. Some of those shots up inside the head don't look so good if you ask me but maybe it will all work out in the end. Re-build from PCNA is roughly $20k, used motors are about the same money, crate motor is $40k. Also wonder about little things they might be overlooking. That car has $5-6k in shocks on it but did the socks pull in water from being submerged too and are they now junk? it'll be interesting to see how it ends up. As they already stated in the blog if the harness is not able to be saved it's a HUGE cost.
  9. RPM 505. Cheap, good looking, not exactly light but you can't have it all without paying $$$. They are around $200 a wheel http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/carlos64030/IMAG0016.jpg
  10. Ha...I somehow think we're all talking about the same guy. His name Dmitry...or maybe Roman?
  11. This...Bob's guy is my friend of nearly 15 years. You can browse the site for cars then tell him what you want him to bid on and how high you're willing to go on it. Discuss up front what his fee will be for purchasing the car for you (it's very reasonable), etc. He only asks that you're either pre-approved or have the cash up front so that he doesn't get stuck with a car he would have otherwise not bid on. If the car is at a local sale he can even get you access to the lot to go see, feel and drive the car (only on the premesis but still drive) so that you know exactly what you are getting. Either Bob or I can put you in touch if you'd like. Andy
  12. Pilot super sport... It's what my track buddies run for rain tires / street tires. I have pilot sport 2's for this role and they are great....spendy but good.
  13. FYI: Registration is open for all the Mid Ohio Region PCA events currently, I'm signed up to instruct at the April 19-21 date hope to see some of you there.
  14. Wife and I are currently both daily driving 1.8t cars with a combined mileage of nearly 350k miles. Both still get 29-30 mpg on the freeway and I wouldn't hesitate to jump in either and drive anywhere right now That said, based on your goals the 2.0t is better platform for your needs. Follow the advise of jones and stay in front of maintenance and it will run forever.
  15. There were issues with the water cooled switch over mainly with porus cylinder walls failing and the like...but those issues have long since surfaced at this point. IMS bearing is a weak point and needs to be addressed as preventative maintenance just like anyone plans for timing belt changes. Air Oil separator can go bad and if you ever have the opportunity it should be switched out as well to prevent failure (car smokes out the exhaust like it's blowing up). RMS's tend to leak. There were soo many cars produced in the 996 series that there's a huge number of them on the market making them extremely cheap. $10k can actually buy a pretty nice example of a 2.5 Boxster. With spec boxster racing there are great, relatively inexpensive and proven setups for the cars to be great fun at the track for not a ton of money in upgrades.
  16. Yup, early non-S Boxsters are pretty cheap these days. Do the preventative IMS bearing replacement and drive the crap out of it for another 100k miles.

  18. Craziness. Porsche guys don't drive their cars to the track, use the shit out of them then bring them home and run them with a diaper an appreciate them for what they are
  19. Suprised that nobody has mentioned the Replay XD1080. It's still $300 so it's not exactly a cheaper alternative but based on many articles I read it performs even better than the GoPro does. I think it was Hot Rod magazine that did a test of 4 popular cameras and chose the Replay unit over the GoPro. ...but my wife bought me a Hero2 for christmas so I too ended up with the GoPro instead of the Replay. http://replayxd.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/replayxd1080-1-hero.jpg
  20. This made me laugh, mainly because I have a friend that has assembled a combination of business you mention above all in close proximity to each other. (Pawn shop, 2 cash advance places, buy-here-pay-here used car lot).
  21. I see 12k budget and reliable (long term) as two criteria that don't easily go hand in hand. You guys know I love my Audi but the A4 doesn't have the best rear leg room esp if you're trying to put 3 people back there on a regular basis. E39 5 series maybe (they make a wagon in that body too)....get a 525 or 530 as the i6 BMW motor is a solid, reliable motor. **NOT AWD though** I'm sure there is some American Iron out there that probably fits the bill much better I'm just not educated on the choices.
  22. Fit in mine just fine when I gave him a ride, that was in the recaro's to boot.
  23. Usually LS6 cars as they are the most popular track rats hence the ones that blow up the most but I've seen blown up LS7, LS1, LS3 as well. I'm not saying other cars are immune just saying I see ALOT lf blown up 'vette's. Don't know the root cause but generally it's scattered lower ends that I've seen, not sure if that's the result of a top end failure first or what.
  24. The allure of this car is strong, they're doing alot of things right. I, like many others, don't care for the rear though. Only problem is there's at least one corvette that blows an engine at every track day I go to. Worries me quite a bit.
  25. I hated spec racer ford, could never get the car setup to my liking and when I got it setup to where I wanted it I was slow compared to the others. The solstice isn't a bad car I think there are some things you can do as a beginner in the solstice but you'll find very quickly that it's really very soft and boring to drive compared to the Miata. Miata's are great fun once you've built up some experience and don't mind getting out there and rubbing fenders with people, but they're frustrating if you're trying to be clean and get experience under your belt. As soon as you get Class D and can run Mustang's that's where it's at in my opinion. I've tried all the rest of the series, bought all the cars, to this day I don't care for any of the open wheel stuff except for the fixed setup indy cars and do most of my racing in the Mustang's. I guess part of that alure is that it's also basically the same lap pace as my real world track car so it makes for excellent practice as far as timing goes, it obviously drive quite a bit different but everything is coming at you at the same pace as in real life at least for me.
