Had the pleasure of working on Erik's RX-7 the other day. Despite this car having a couple of minor paint issues and clear bra that's degraded like nothing I've ever seen before, it came out beautifully. Hopefully better than it's ever looked since he's owned it. I've been without a camera for along time now so bear with my crappy photography skills: Before: http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20096.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20088.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20092.jpg Paint was swirled up and had some defects that needed removed: http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20097.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20102.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20106.jpg After polishing. You can see most everything came out. There's some water etching damage on the top surfaces that could not be corrected but I was very happy with the turn-around. http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20114.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20115.jpg http://www.andymobiledetail.com/porsche/picture%20116.jpg

I'll get them up soon. These particular pics wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining if I showed the detail pics first as it'd be much more clear on the cropping and trickery that went into them. But again...2 nights with the camera, 2 night of shooting in low light proves that I clearly need help in low light situations.

I'll post another thead in the detailing section in the near future once I get a few minutes to resize them and get them hosted.

I do specifically remember a conversation where he used the term "JDM"...

First...he passes out drunk while I'm detailing his car. Then he wakes up, hops in his other car and tears out of there like this! I never realized an Evo could pull the front wheels like that. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/1.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/2.jpg All kidding aside..Thanks for having me out to take care of the RX-7 Erik. Scott makes a good point with Lighting. I have particular interest in ways to get good indoor shots without buying expensive studio lighting kits that I might only use a few times as an amateur. I've made a couple of small light boxes to photograph small items in the past but wonder if there's a good home made, DIY approach to getting close to studio lighting without all of the equipment. Woot. I might be able to make it afterall, sounds like my detail tomorrow is going to flake on me due to the forecast of rain for the next 8 days straight (not that I can blame him). Nothing I own is clean though...how's that for karma

I've had Hawk HPS in the M3 for street pads for 4 years. They're a great, lower dust pad compared to the OEM pad that still does a decent job of stopping the car. However, HPS pads are notorious for coming apart if you use them for anything other than street driving. They just aren't any good with heat. Great street pad but nothing more. HP+ is a decent pad if you're going to be a bit more agressive with the applicaiton. Sill not a good track pad by any means but great for agressive street driving and Auto-x applications. I ran HT-10's in the M3 for track pads and they were outstanding. Lacked a little bit of modulation feel but never got too hot even stoppoing that 3600lb car from around 140mph at the end of the back straight at Mid Ohio. The HT series pads were recently replaced with the DTC series pads which are a newer competition compound. I hope to try them out on the 996 this season as I wasn't blown away with the Pagids I've been using on that car. Andy

Free bump just because I was talking with someone today about how much of a hoot this thing would be as a DE / track car! Matt, what's it take to put serious rubber under the car? Andy

If it's the same set I'm thinking about they need some love. They used to be on a customer's car and she wasn't very good about keeping after her expensive wheels. I've thought a time or 3 about swapping my Sportec's and some cash for them though!

...and there was a group buy on rep, time-attack painted LM reps from one of the vendors not too far back. Doesn't make them any less sexy. LM reps are VERY good these days looks wise. I thought about rocking a set on the M3 for quite some time. Great looking car BTW! Andy

Expectations: Buffed to be shiny? Buffed to remove some swirls? Buffed to remove most swirls? Buffed to be as close to concourse ready as the paint will allow?

Color? Current condition? Expectations? Timeframe? Andy

All, I'm in the process of making my site fully functional as an e-commerce site. I wanted to put a feeler out there on what additional detailing products you'd like to see me carry. Right now I'm thinking of expanding on the current microfiber offerings by adding at least a Quick Detailer and a Synthetic Spray Wax. Looking for feedback and possible other product offerings you'd like to see added to my store. Andy

Welcome. Always good to see more variety around here. Andy

Matt, Sad to see her go. I can only hope it finds a good, deserving home. I rode in this car at Nelson ledges and can attest it's wicked. Find a way to stuff some bigger rubber under there and it'd make one of the meanest track cars around. Actually I'd pick it up as a track car for myself if I had the means currently. Andy

Had a great time. I haven't been to the drag strip in over 10 years. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the wife's sled to hook. It actually ran it's best time when I shifted to 2nd early to avoid the wheel spin / axle hop issues I was getting in 1st. Best run: 60' - 2.2 1/2 - 12.7 @ 113.5 Ran 12.8 and 12.9 back to back hotlapping it with the wife riding shotgun. Andy
