Well, technically you're both right. The chassis was designed and prototyped by Opel. So you could technically call it an EU chassis, but, it's also a global platform because GM owns Opel and could use that chassis for cars around the world. Regardless, platform is only part of the equation. It's still up to Saab to decide where to place pillars, sheet metal, seating, etc. and they pride themselves on making extremely safe (moose-proof) cars. My little brother ended up rolling his 2001 Saab 9-5. It crashed very well and all four occupants walked away with no more than scratches.
