  1. This is floating around facebook:

If you grew up on home cooked meals, you rode a bike with no helmet, your parents house was not "child-proof" , you got a whippin' when you misbehaved, had 3 TV channels you got up to change or went outside to turn the antenna, school started with the Pledge of Allegiance, stores were closed on Sunday, you drank water out of a water hose and still turned out okay, re post this and show that you survived!!! AMEN.

Thought it'd be funny to discuss how things are different now. So I'll add to this with:

We had one phone, paper maps, actual phone books, toys were made from metal, the house and car doors were left unlocked, dad didn't call your cell phone to come home-he whistled really loud, you had to rewind movies to watch them.....

  2. Didn't take too long to get a lot of responses on here. I appreciate all the opinions. Can I get some more specifics on what exactly people own and why, maybe even expected prices of said guns used and new.

I carry an M&P .40. Open and concealed. It fits my hand great and I like everything about it. Bought it because hopefully I need it for a specific police department I am trying to get onto and I like having more rounds in the magazine. It also doubles as home defense along with my shotgun. I have a M&P .45 compact I carried before I got the .40. Bought it off a friend not knowing much about that line but really like it now. I also have a Taurus PT22 I'll carry every once in a while if I need deep concealment or little weight. My wife carries a Bersa Lusber 844 .32. I got it from a friend for doing the fuel pump in his truck.

There are way too many variables per gun per person. Basically you want something that fits your hand, fits your clothing style to conceal, comfortable to carry, and what ever kind of round you want. 9mm is cheap. .45 is more expensive but bigger. Do you have kids and want more safeties? XD fits that bill. Do you want something that has been in service a while and has a great following? Get a Glock. There are a million different reasons and excuses. No one here can tell you much more than we already have or that isn't already in one of the 3 dozen "What gun should I get" threads already.

Do you want me to come shoot it for you too?

  3. Changing the oil on time, or running a more expensive synthetic. Both yield similar results in most cases. The synthetic usually ends up being cheaper due to less frequent changes. I use synthetic, and change it at around 4 or 5k miles in the cage, so I should be good, as long as I don't let it run too low on oil again. :D

BTW, That's Pedro's Grand Prix. It had a misfire on cyl 2. Turns out the plastic brace that keeps the lifters sitting correctly broke on that cylinder. Let the lifters rotate and jack up the push rods.

  4. The first picture is an engine from a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800, 197,000 miles. As far as I know it has always had conventional motor oil in it. Notice the gunk build up.

This is an engine from a 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 3800m 134,000mi, my grandfather's car. Exact same engine as the Grand Prix. I just got this car a week ago. Anyways, he has always used Amsoil Synthetic motor oil in it. Notice how much cleaner it is? I believe the oil was changed about every 7,500 or 10,000 miles, I'll have to double check his note tonight.

This is why I use Amsoil Synthetic oil in my vehicles.

  5. Ok I will sum up every other thread in this post. chebby likes m&p so does jrmmii, I like xd so does midget todd and lots of others. and some of the fools on here insist glock is the best but there not worth mentioning. And max and a few of the old guys think wheel guns are the only way to carry. That sound about right guys? LOL!

I think you nailed it.
