  1. Just a hint on vines, spray them with round up or Sodium Chlorate and allow them to absorb the poison for a week before cutting them down. This allows the poison to penetrate into the roots so they don't grow back. It's also best to do this during the summer when transpiration is at its peak. ;)

PS. I was guessing the furnaces outside Nelsonville before the whole pic downloaded showing the depth.:)

Yeah, he does something like that. he's the horticulture supervisor at the Columbus Zoo so this is the kind of stuff he's done all his life. but good looking out. :D

  2. to be honest i did grow up on a horse ranch and we did have a grain silo to hold the derr grain for feeding so i have seen the inside of these quite a bit.. their all fairly similar

I figured you had some history with them. Most never get to see the inside of one, just a view from the road. This summer all the vines will be cut down so they doesn't destroy it. The barn is supposed to be getting sold as well. A woman lost hers in a fire and might be getting my parents' barn to build a new one. They only thing left will be the silo and the concrete section that was the milk house.

  3. It's one thing to die from gun fire or a mortar in combat. It's another to make the split second decision to use your body to cover a grenade to save your brothers. This man knew he would die but to him it was the only option. There is no greater love than that. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. He is deserving of so much more...

Petty Officer Michael A. Monsoor was killed in battle in Iraq in September 2006, and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in April.

His funeral in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego was attended by “nearly every SEAL on the West Coast,” President Bush said.

During the service, as Monsoor's coffin was taken from the hearse to the gravesite, Navy SEALs lined up in two columns. As the coffin passed, video shows each SEAL slapping down the gold Trident from his uniform and deeply embedding it in Monsoor's wooden coffin.

The slaps were reportedly heard across the cemetery.

I urge you to watch this video. Near the end you see the men paying their respects to their fallen comrade. This is taking place in Iraq. Then you see the funeral at Arlington and the Tridents being slapped into the coffin.

  4. Not to beat a dead horse but why cant a CC law in a city be a deterrent? Does a deterrent have to be visible? I have an electric dog fence. My dogs don't go near it. Even with no collars! Can't one be deterred by the notion that there may be armed civilians in the store he is about to knock off?

One can be yes. Like in Kennesaw GA. Their crime rate is very low due to their law. I'll let you go find that since you don't like to research anything. On a statewide level? No, like Fusion hit on, not enough people carry. Of course how many police stations or gun stores get robbed or shot up? Why does it seem that it's always the places that don't allow guns that get shot up? Schools, military bases, immigration offices....? Comparing bad guys to dogs isn't an even comparison anyways. IF that were the case, no one would be getting shot or robbed in Ohio because most bad guys know there could be a gun hidden in the store. So is it really a deterrent or do you just think it could be a deterrent?

I doubt it, really. Maybe if the known CCW population of Ohio was closer to 50% it might be, but most people know hardly anyone carries; only 3% of Ohioans have CHLs.

True. But a no gun sign is more of an invitation than a gun that might be hidden.

so, what is being argued here is that my actions, whatever they may be and well within my rights, should be dictated by the lack of education on the subject, complacency and apathy of those around me? its like making the test easier so the dumb kids do better.

this is the problem with the world today........IMO. :(

I'm still trying to figure out why this thread is going on. The guy was in his rights to be walking down the street as he was without having his rights infringed upon. The cop was wrong and there's no argument that could possibly justify his actions. I dont care who you are or what you have had done to you in the past (i.e. robber, shot at, etc.) it give you no right to infringe upon another citizens given rights protected by the constitution and statutes because you are not in the know (as the cop was) or it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Yes, that is what sunseeker will have you believe. Doesn't matter if your 100% legal. If someone else has a problem with what your doing, you should accommodate them because they are more important than you. I mean, we are all taught to play the victim card. He scared me. It's his fault. No mind that I don't know the laws enough so he's wrong, not me. This is my main complaint with this whole thread. Sunseeker rides a BMW which is made by the Germans and some Germans were Nazis and Nazis scare me. Waaaaaa Get rid of BMWs. Same thought process, different target. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it.

It's continuing because I've been home sick and I'm bored so I chose this thread to stir some shit up. I really have no idea why others keep replying to me. I don't really care about the topic but it looked like one that had some staying power. My goal was 10 pages. I think I could have gone 12 possibly 13 but I'm feeling better now.

I've continued it because I am tired of people with your mentality. "It's not my fault, it's everyone else's fault." See my reply right above this one.

its only on page 3 :dunno:

    Me too. :D

  5. Because it's such a big deal for an already safe gun owner.

Seriously though, safety features and reliability were a big factor in my picking the XD. The need to dry fire the XD to field strip it isn't a big deal, as long as the person stripping it is safe, and checks and double checks to make sure it's unloaded. From what I've been reading from much more experienced gun owners, dry firing isn't a big deal on most modern pistols. On the XD, excessive dry firing can cause damage to a $5 roll pin.

I like the fact that I don't need any tools to field strip my XD, others like the fact that you don't have to pull the trigger. Personal preference, I suppose.

Accidents (read negligence) happen, to experienced gun owners too. I also don't need any extra tools, it's the grip pad pin and in the butt of the gun anyways. I told you about the guy that shot himself in the leg.vVeteran gun owner cleaning his gun. Put it back together, tested for proper operation. Had done it thousands of times. Made sure it loaded a round in the chamber, he got sidetracked then pulled the trigger to dry fire and shot himself. That's why the M&P was designed that way.

  6. 1) lol, are you telling me you've see criminals carrying openly committing a crime?

    2) Why is it I should have to put myself into other peoples shoes? You never hear "why don't you put yourself into the open carriers shoes."?

    3) Where are you getting your real life experiences from? 4) Do you frequent forums of open carriers and their experiences? 5) Or do you only listen to the few things the slanted news leads you to believe?

1 Most criminals do not carry open. They realize that concealing their weapon, gathering info on the target, then executing the crime far outweighs broadcasting what they have.

2 I say that because like I said before OC in this part of the country it is not common and when you approach certain people, it puts them on edge. Not your problem, I get it but the mom who just watched a school or mall shooting on the news may be on edge when you walk by the school exercising your rights.

3 I don't frequent too many forums because I have a busy life and have found that they are full of people like me who just feel like ranting sometimes. I don't treat forums as a serious source of info. This is a great forum of people who like to bike and bust each others balls. I laugh my ass off at the things you guys write but a serious source of info? And mainstream news? Don't they just push their own agenda?

4 IMHO (sorry-I should be putting this in front of everything but I thought is was assumed as I have cited nothing) CC sure seems like a deterrent to me. If I was a thug I would rob every store with a posted sign that prohibits CC. I know that no one in that store has a gun. If I was a thug I would rather live in a state with no CC allowed. I would know that more than likely, anywhere I went to rob, I'm the only one with a gun. And in those states, if there was only OC, I could easily spot those people. Everyone can. Sorry, there I go again putting myself in other's shoes.

    Disclaimer- IMHO-----IMHO------IMHO

Ok, now I am starting to understand your thought process. I still think it's flawed, but it's your stance nonetheless. Like I said, I'm really not trying to make you open carry, but to treat open carriers that way is wrong. Mom may be on edge, but she needs to learn that it isn't the gun that kills the people. She's part of the the reason so many places don't allow guns into their establishments. My right to carry a firearm should not be less important than her feeling safe.

Concealed carry cannot be a deterrent if your firearm is hidden. The sign prohibiting carry is an invitation. Those are two big differences.

You are correct in that places the prohibit carrying a firearm, crime tends to increase. But, nothing proves that open carrying increases the chances of them being the first shot across the board. Nothing is an end all be all and there are exceptions like the cop in Whitehall. But the overall statistics do not back up your claims. Would you really walk in to a 7/11 to rob it, then encounter a person OC'ing a weapon and decide to shoot him first? Is that money worth dying over? Is he a cop? Heck, when I OC that's the number one question I get.

Go check out http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/forum.php and http://www.ohioccwforums.org. and read peoples first hand experiences about OC.

I just got up and I'm not completely awake yet so I hope I made sense.
