  1. Shut up or the puppies I promised you go to the pound! (Or the Chinese restaurant in town.)
  2. The first thing I got from the article is how different bicycles are compared to motorcycles, due to speed, weight, and many other variables...
  3. I was just coming back to this to say that it was Keith Code! I found reference to it in a wikipedia article about bicycle and motorcycle dynamics. I think it's in A Twist 2, which I have, so I'll look for it.
  4. And that's exactly why I quoted you saying that you need both (to make a higher speed turn effectively!) I know that when I make a turn though, it's virtually impossible to keep the bike from leaning as a result of countersteering. This is getting into a a chicken or egg discussion, when I'm in agreement with you, that you need both steering input and lean.
  5. I'm not going to discuss the dynamics of turning a motorcycle at speed any more, until I find the source that I was taking the info from. It's not super important anyway, once you realize what Brian said: If I ever get some time, I'll try to find what I was reading. It was something about there was an experiment done with a set of bars attached to the frame, riders would use them and lean to try to turn. The amount they could turn was minimal.
  6. That's what they get for letting you in there.
  7. Ya know, this is true. Good point. Although, I don't remember seeing anything ABOVE MSRP, but most stuff AT MSRP. As I said, I will still go there for some things, but other things I will price shop them first. Tires, I will most likely go to them, for example, due to shipping costs.
  8. Amsoil isn't cheap anywhere! ^^^ This. There's something about going into a store with nothing but motorcycle stuff. Most of what I've bought there I couldn't get much cheaper online after factoring in shipping, and then I'd have the waiting factor. If I can save a significant amount, I will purchase online, and I will continue to check online for better pricing. I guess it all depends on how tight the budget is when I make the purchase!
  9. I don't hate on them for making money and keeping the doors open, but with their size I would think they'd have some decent buying power, and woul be able/willing to pass some of the savings to their local B&M purchasers vs. online orders. It's almost the same price to order online and have things shipped, and that's more work for them! I will still buy some things from there, but when something's obviously way over priced, I will shop elsewhere.
  10. Also, I'm signed up for the Motorcycle Ohio Advanced rider course- sportriding techniques class, I hope it's worth it! (It's only $25)
  11. I really need to do this. I don't think I'm going to have the cash flow foir it this year though. Those are a couple excellent points! Don't over think it, and point with your head and the rest will follow. Always! I can't wait for this rain to go away!
  12. I'm not going to argue this, but I disagree with anyone that says anything about leaning to initiate a turn. There have been studies done on this, and leaning alone will not make the bike turn. Whether you realize it or not, when you lean, you are giving input to the bars, and THAT is making the turh. At higher speeds, and on supersport bikes, that input is much less, therefore, one doesn't think they're actually doing it. Someone please correct me if you can PROVE otherwise. /rant I am learning how to corner better (smoother, which turns into faster) each time I get on the bike, and each curve I take. I am pretty slow, in comparison to some of the people I've been riding with. Following others that are better than I am has helped me quite a bit. A few pointers, most have already been said, but here's what has helped me. LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO! Look through the curve as far as you can. It WILL make a huge difference, especially in hwo things "feel" to the rider. I struggle with this one all the time, and I have to constantly remind myself. I have been told before to point your chin where you want to go. Having your head turned that way, and looking that way will make the turn feel better, in my experience. The bike WILL lean over further than you are comfortable with. This is for the majority of riders out there, with the exception of some racers that have experienced the limits of their bikes, tires, setup, etc... Brake in, accelerate out. This is golden. As you accelerate, you probably need more steering input, don't be afraid to push on the bars! Weight shifting is helpful as you get better. I've been riding 2 seasons now, going into my third, and I'm just now making myself do this much more. I don't shift in the seat very much, but I push down on the peg that's to the inside of the turn. Left turn, weight the left peg. From what I'm seeing, some bikes are more responsive to this weight shift. My Honda seems to give me more benefit from it than the Ninja. I think that on the Ninja, I might need to move myself around in the seat more, and get my weight more on the front tire. I will be be slowly working on this to see what works best on that bike. The biggest thing is spending more time on the bike. The more you do it, the better you will be at it, like most other things. All of the tips above are my opinion and stuff that I have been told, or have read. I try not to listen to just anyone. If someone is a good, experienced rider that I know for a fact is good, I listen to them. I need to get into the Keith Code Twist of the Wrist 2 book that I have sitting here... Someday!
  13. I'm not gonna go there. I was just taking a break on this "Malibu day"!
  14. I was mentally handicapped back in those days, but it was alcohol induced! I got fired from that job. I guess they want you to show up for work once in a while.
  15. How long ago did Clarks close? I haven't been out that way in a long time. Maybe I should get out to visit my friend that lives there sometime?
  16. I had no idea they still made them!
  17. Does anyone remember 3 liter bottles of pop? They weren't around for very long, and I don't think any of the major drinks ever came in them, but some of the cheaper stuff did.
  18. I've been a bit nostalgic the past few days not only from this thread, but my grandma's 90th birthday party was Sunday, and I saw a lot of people from "back when." Good times!
  19. There are a couple still around, but it's just not the same.
  20. I remember pay phones! Do they even exist anymore? The good ole ramps we would build out of whatever we could find! Some of the boards were questionable at best, and ready to break at any time! I hated it when a car would come down the back alley (we knew whoever it was, it was just that way) and have to take down the ramp as fast as we could, then put it back up after the car woudl pass. Maybe the biggest difference is that we WOULD take down the ramp, instead of trying to "own" the alley. The store would sometimes ask for a note from my parents to make sure it was legit that I was buying cigs for them. Fortunately, that's one thing I have never even wanted to try out, so no worries there! My tonka trucks were cool. My dad did body and paint work, and he painted my Tonka wrecker red. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IHQ7EGlnec
  21. There ya go with the jealousy again.
  22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1KtIJq5s4g I hear him once in a while at work on aol radio, or pandora.
