The guy you quoted (coincidentally me) has two bikes. Socioeconomic variables are moot, since it's the same rider on both. One has ABS and has been driven 70,000 miles like a madman and never been wrecked. The other without ABS wrecked in less than 1000 miles.
Get her to take the oxycotin. I was on it recently for six weeks. I didn't get addicted or die. Shit works in minutes and lasts till the next dose.
Speaking of shit, if she does take it get her on a mild laxative right away, soon as she starts.
I went too hot into a corner. Too hot for me, not the bike. I locked the rear, then serious dumbassness kicked in. Without that initial lock I would have been fine.
The point isn't how many people survive without ABS.
The point is a lot of people have not survived because they didn't have ABS. 31 percent drop in accidents with ABS.
I wrecked my FZ because I was a dumbass, however, ABS would have totally kept that wreck from happening. No question about it.
FJRs were FI from day one, so 2001. Here is a rundown on the changes over the years. I think you want a gen 2 at the least. Two up with that heavy of a bike please seriously consider ABS.

Found a way to get YouTube Red for free. All the shows, TV, movies and what not. Just go to www.youtube.com then erase "you" and replace it with "red".
You are welcome.
