  1. Ain't no reason to drive coffee unless it's strong enough to dissolve the stir straw!
  2. Just a heads up. My previous RS (2016) that was totaled by a distracted driver in 2022 had the "polymer/composite" ??? guards on the cylinder heads when i went down....prolly 35-40 MPH. The impact with the street and subsequent slide destroyed those and the cylinder head! I have no clue if the Wunderlich crash bars will do any better job but be aware that the molded guards won't stand up to much abuse. Presumably OK in a tip-over situation or maybe slow-speed crash.
  3. The one glaring fail--IMHO--that BMW screwed up on the RS (and presumably the R and RT as well) is the idiotic choice of going with a digital bar tach and an analog speedo. WTF? I'm guessing my strong hate for the digital tach is maybe an old guy thing, aka techno-grouch, but I can't figure out why the design team and engineers went that way. The only saving grace is that the engine is so tractable from 2500 to 7000 RPM and provides and almost infinite well of torque that there's no need to explore the upper limits of the engine--simply stick it in 3rd or 4th and short-shift when you add speed.
  4. @Pauly We both have good taste in motorcycles! I've added 1" risers, the touring screen and sport engine guards from Wunderlich, and the bike came with a Sargent seat. I don't want to cast aspersions on your age but as an old guy who's been riding 60+ years and having gone through countless bikes searching for that one unicorn that scratches every itch, the RS comes as close to being the perfect sport touring bike for a man whose starting to lose a bit of leg strength but finally achieving some semblance of maturity. Y'all believe that, right? 😏 I like the pipe on your bike and prolly a lot lighter. Brand? Louder than stock? Or fairly quiet?
  5. Kind'a looks like you were overdue for an oil change!
  6. Dude, Haven't you already done an "epic" trip at least once this year? Yer taking this retired thing WAY TOO SERIOUSLY! Have fun. Send pix.
  7. Also guessing the image has enhanced for "interest"....
  8. Don't hold me to this as I haven't ridden in this area ever. Guessing it's White Bird Grade on Old 95, just off US95 SW of Grangeville ID. https://www.google.com/maps/@45.8134098,-116.2518469,14.98z?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUxMS4wIKXMDSoJLDEwMjExNDUzSAFQAw%3D%3D
  9. Congrats Jim! You won't regret it. Been a useless male drone since 2006. Still having fun. And...every day is Saturday!
  10. I assume this auction site is similar to others like BAT where seller puts a reserve on the item? Didn't poke around on the site but is there a buyer's premium?
  11. Truth in advertising right there!

    New bike

The 650 Versys model is a great mid-size for doing many things. I rode my 650LT on a long 2 1/2 week trip from OH to the CA border--out to TX, across AZ/NM NV, headed north to southern UT/CO and home. Comfortable riding position and great handling with maybe average wind management. DId everything from hooning the twisties in the passes to superslabbing in 108* temps through western TX to some moderate off-roading on Kolob Terrace Rd (north of Virgin UT) to the Shafer Switchbacks and part of the White Rim trail heading back to Moab.
  13. THANK GOD!!! I've been hanging off the edge of my seat for the last 25 years. 🤣
  14. Oh my! Poor Walt must be spinning in his grave....certainly NOT the Snow White I knew as a child. OTOH, anyone know where I can find the Youtube video of this? 😳
  15. Me too. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you didn't save me any....
  16. @Tonik @Pauly Sorry, but I have yet to see any chickens in this thread. Fake news!
  17. Not sure what your plans include, but if you haven't seen the KY Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort, it's worth a visit. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Kentucky+Vietnam+Veterans+Memorial/@38.1771222,-84.8666529,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x8842749bc8cd3719:0xcebdb77d4237bbbe!8m2!3d38.177118!4d-84.864078!16s%2Fm%2F04n5ktf?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkzMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D Smoking Pig Tavern in Falmouth has pretty damn good ribs! https://www.google.com/maps/place/The+Smoking+Pig+Tavern/@38.6769682,-84.3336389,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x884183366798584b:0xba2cd5b0db6e9175!8m2!3d38.676964!4d-84.331064!16s%2Fg%2F11g888dybq?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkzMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D Great roads in the area: 227 from Stamping Ground to Owenton, 607 from 127 to Corinth (check GM for one REALLY bad corner!), 165 from 68 to Powersville.
  18. So...if you eat a cat, do you end up with a scratchy throat?
  19. So...inquiring minds want to know. Do you stay at Casinos because you like to gamble? Or are the rooms a better value--i.e., cheap--because they're subsidized by the gamblers? I'm gonna go ahead and paint myself as a wanker because I admit I've never been inside one.
  20. Time has not been kind to Elvis....or his younger brothers. The Cincinnati Local Riders group always did their annual NC/Waynesville trip the week after the Labor Day holiday. Kids back in school and parents back in the office. Traffic was always very light. 16, 208 and 209 are definitely worth a run! Looks like a great trip.
