In Sept, I bought an '09 Strom w/10k mi in a private sale from a guy in IN for $5300. Has lots of farkles (Sargeant seat + stock seat, Madstad bracket, SW-Motech bash plate and crash bars, luggage rack, new BS Battlewing rear tire) and reasonably clean. Prolly about average price--not great deal, but OK. Yer prolly a little high, but I have no idea if you are obligated to buy after winning the bid. On a bright note, the Wee is a wonderful bike! Tons of fun to ride, engine has plenty of juice (altho a little agricultural sounding), prolly hang with many sport bikes in the twisties, and adaptable for either around-town errands or week-long touring trips. Not REALLY an off-road monster because its a heavy l'il beast and has pretty limited ground clearance. If you do end up with it, just ride the wheels off it. You're gonna love it once you try it! Edit: Didn't see that it was the 1000 Strom. Prolly right on the money with your bid. Pretty low miles for an '08! You won't likely turn it for a profit if that's what you wanted to do, but as I said, they're great bikes and built like tanks. Ride the wheels off it.

Pretty sure there are such things as tubeless spoke rims, mostly on newer high-end DS bikes like Beemers. Meant for applications where a modern tubeless radial is mated to a lightweight spoke wheel. Doubt if your bike is one of them, however. Prolly a tube, and prolly means you need a new one. One good thing is that if it already had nail hole in it, you didn't screw it up much more than it already was.... And just an FYI, you can't stop a leak in a spoked rim by tightening the spokes. As a matter fact, if you selectively tighten spokes on one part of the rim, you can throw the rim/wheel out of true with respect to both lateral and longitudinal run-out. Worst case, you put too much tension on a particular set of spokes and have them snap during operation, causing a catastrophic wheel failure. Haven't seen it happen on a MC, but have experienced it personally on a MTB. Can you say "Chinese endo"?

This big guy--12 pt, I believe--was here all last season and is back again this year. Seen him a half dozen times already. I was happy to see that no one bagged him with their Buick or F250. Makes me ashamed of being a biker, but this is a classic example of what happens with mob mentality....although, the 'mental' part is sorely lacking. A situation like that calls for helicopters with large nets, preferably at about 120 MPH. Or maybe automatic weapons fire? Sorry, I'm sure there are some here and there that would revel in that kind of thing, but it would seriously suck to be associated with that crew!

Thx for your reply. I tried to price it for late season sale, but I suspect I'll have to hang on to it until next spring--economy sucks and money's tight for everyone. RE: Top vs Side loading.... Can't speak to the eBay items yer asking about, but I can give you my experience with the FJR side loaders. Makes it easier to find something on the road, but that's mostly because when you open the bags, it all kind of 'spills out'. Top loaders wouldn't do that, but then again, if the stuff yer looking for is at the bottom of the bag, yer gonna end up MTing the whole thing anyway. Blessings and curses...just like everything else in life. And just like you, I always thought I'd never ride a bagger, but since I bought the Yammie, I've done a couple of long trips and love the ride! Go for it!

Wouldn't want to be hit by THAT flying squirrel. That kind of thrill addiction very often leads to an early demise, usually while being filmed by Red Bull heli-cams. Definitely would make for a fast and fun death, I guess....I'll prolly stick to drinkin' beer on the back deck.

From the sounds of the OP's description, I'd hazard a guess that the fuel leaked into the cylinders and they are hydraulic-locked, i.e., full of liquid (gas) and unable to come to TDC. Suggest turning off the petcock, pulling the plugs, and kicking the engine over until it clears itself. Then....rebuild the carbs, drain the crankcase and refill with fresh oil. And for God's sake, do the work yourself. If you take it to a shop, you'll have a $200 bike (maybe) that you've got a grand in.

So....we talkin' the fat guys are ugly, or their bikes? Or both? IJS...

Oh, I've still got the CBR1KRR. Still love the fact that's a totally different animal than the FJR. I just don't plan on doing any multi-day mega-mile rides on it. Got a seat ALMOST as comfortable as a rough-cut yellowpine 2x10...

RE: Old guys riding! Finally added a bike to the stable that I can ride for more than a few hundred miles without wishing I was 30 again--'07 FJR! Just got back from a 5-day 7-state romp (KY/WV/VA/NC/SC/GA/TN) thru the Appalaician/Blue Ridge mtns. Did just about 1600 miles--all rural 2-lane roads, no super-slab....yeah! 5 bikes in the group--Did the Diamond Back, Snake, BRP, Cherhola Skyway, Dragon, and anything else in the area that had more curves than a cathouse in Vegas. Everyone brought back their scoots intact without any scratches on the chrome or plastic. Didn't donate any parts to the Tree of Shame, either. Yeah, I know....boring. I agree with Wicked's statement above. Going from a hard-core super-sport bike like the CBR to a cruiser isn't apples-to-oranges, it's more like apples-to-anchovies! I would definitely take a good look at the FJR, the VFR, the new Kaw Ninja, and maybe some of the new breed of nekkids that are finally being offered in the good ol' USA. If the roads in AZ are as amazing as I've heard, you're going to run out of corner clearance much too soon on a cruiser.

2TT: Very cool that you took time to just breathe and listen! Cold beer on the tailgate by the lake is also cool. My full moon zen moment happened a couple of years back. Was on a 3-week road trip (cagin' it) in the early fall out west and had planned on camping at the Grand Canyon NP. Got to the park gates--a 60+ mile drive from anywhere--and found the 'Full' sign out. So I had a quick conversation with the ranger about what to do/where to go, and he gave me a tip about a primitive camp site at the end of about 8 miles of dirt road in a NF area that was on the north rim of the canyon. I had 4WD, so I headed out. The spot that I camped was set under huge Ponderosa pines right at the edge of the Canyon's north rim, overlooking the abyss. Had a great dinner of beans 'n franks grilled over the campfire, watched a perfect full moon rise over the canyon and light the whole scene like a torch, and sat around until after 2 AM just listening to the wind and the crackling fire and sipping a glass of good Canadian whiskey. Sometime later, I heard the sound of another car bouncing down the road. Turned out to be a beat-up, 60s-vintage VW micro-bus that pulled into the turn-around and parked right at the edge of the canyon rim. Dude got out--long hair, beatnik-earth child-type--with his coon dog, slid the side door of the bus open, sat with his legs dangling over the canyon and proceeded to break out the bongo drums and do a solo act while the dog accompanied him soulfully howling at the moon....and I was thinking the whole time: "Vuja De--NOTHING like this is gonna happen EVER again!" Just might have to go back there soon, with more whiskey!

Christine: Wow! I'm seriously impressed. As a recent owner of an '07 FJR, I'm working thru some issues of 'driveability' with respect to the FI/throttle response. I've read lots of info in the Feejer forums on what seems to a common problem with these bikes, and would love to bounce a few questions off of you via email or PM. Mind if I ask you to respond personally to one or the other--prefer email since it's easier... Thx--Bubba

Would that get, like, 4-5 MPG? If I have to worry about gas mileage, can I really afford it? Can I lean my FJR against the LR couch?
