  1. It seems to be seeping just ever so slightly right around the housing that you drain the coolant from. I checked the coolant drain plug, its tight. Theres also an allen head bolt that goes into the block that holds the hard coolant line . Its tight. It seems to be seeping around that general area. Does anyone have any insight?
  2. original engine had 27,xxx. It spent alot of time on the track. Here she is at barber The new engine sounds different even. Its quieter, smoother, more responsive. shifting is solid. The low end power is even considerably different. I think the other engine, in the end of it all is probably going to need to be freshened up, if not full rebuild. Now I need to get a 2000-2005 r1 shift arm. I do seem to have a tiny coolant seep, but I will address that here after I look at the micro fische on the parts end of things. Hopefully since I don't ride hard, I won't end up with a similar second gear issue down the road but if/when I will address it then.
  3. I have a can of spray paint... we can take care of that
  4. It was a pretty smooth swap. I've put about a mile on it since completion and it shifts 150% better. Smooth and crisp. No slop. The engine all together runs 100% better than the previous also. The throttle response is much more crisp, easier starting, quieter. Sounds excellent. This engine was claimed at having 7,906 miles on it, and as smooth as it runs/shifts. I'm guessing thats exactly whats on it.
  5. Updates! After a delicious breakfast, and much needed coffee we decided it was time to get moving. removed from crate, and set on jack. The craftsman atv/motorcycle jack proves to be a blessing! engine now installed. My brother from another mother, looks things over. Header installed radiator installed Time for oil- I just put some regular valvoline motorcycle oil in to get it running. After a couple of miles and get it good and warm, I am going to change the oil and filter again. Now, heres what you are all waiting for... http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/lowxpectationz20/?action=view&current=VIDEO0019.mp4
  6. I dunno, If i could tag that and put it on the street, that'd be a great bike for me.
  7. I believe I have seen it before, but its still awesome! He really had a lot of time wrapped up in machining everything! I love how he turned the crank!
  8. I have used both miller and lincoln and like both. The only lincoln machine I have spent much time with is a lincoln 140c. It worked well for what we were doing with it (patch panels on a nova) but I have heard great things about the miller autoset.
  9. They claim its far enough down the exhaust to not have to worry about it. But for safe measured, I had the shop vac on hand. The directions from ivans performance, actually says you don't even have to remove the header. Just start the bike and it will come out of the exhaust. I actually didn't notice any chips come out, but I also was using the shop vac.
  10. Tapped for air injection removal Jack is ready- thanks hellmutt for loaning it to me!! I also installed the starter today.Granda080 and i will be installing the engine Saturday.
  11. I'm looking for an r1 shift arm. Anyone have anything?
  12. Here's a pretty good explanation of what causes it. http://yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119762
  13. The new engine appears to have the 7900 miles on it that the seller claimed. Everythings I..excellent shape. I've seen some with 15k and have the issue and some with 100k and no issue. I think it comes down to the rider. The original owner/builder of this bike spent a lot.of time on the track, along with very spirited rides. I'm pretty mellow for the most part. I am still going to fix the issue with my other engine and keep it as a spare, incase it does happen. I can then swap back, and fix the issue.
  14. Can someone change the name of this thread to engine swap? I will start a new thread when I fix the other engine. Thanks
  15. Here's another pic. I have to remove the air injection tonight and get the holes tapped for the plugs to block off the air injection ports on the exhaust. . Helmutt is going to drop off a motorcycle jack tonight that I think will work excellent to get the engine into position, and hold it steady. Granda080 is coming Saturday, and if all goes well , I should be back on the road by Saturday evening. I will keep the pics coming. After this is done, the fun really starts with digging into the other engine. Thanks Vandy! I appreciate the offer. I will let you know!
  16. I will get the new.engine installed this weekend, and as long as its a good, I will be happy.
  17. I have just taken delivery of engine.it appears to be just as described, and in very nice shape. I pulled all four plugs and they all appear to have been burning very nicely. I will keep you guys posted in my rebuild thread. Thanks everyone !
  18. The ad clearly stated shipping within 24-48 hrs of payment. If engines take more time, thst should have been stated.
  19. Tracking number is working now, it.should arrive today. Hopefully it is,as advertised. This was a big gamble on my part, and I decided to roll the dice.
  20. This has certainly crossed my mind. Its supposed to only have 7900 miles on it, but we shall see
